Canon Powershot. Nothing can compare to the quality at that price.

Pretty much anything off the shelf with perhaps a 5 megapixel will do. They are really cheap and you don't have to spend a lot of money on them...

Canon Powershot D10 is an excellent all a round camera under $300.

I have an older Powershot. 7.1 MP. It shoots shockingly good video, by the way.
It is my 2nd one, my older one was 4MP. But I dropped it and damaged the telephoto mechanism. It wouldn't telescope out when you turned it on.
That is the newer version, and it is 12.1 MP. $178.
Still, the Casio above is only $69. It's practically disposable at that price. And the Amazon reviews are pretty good.

Canon Powershot is what I have and I like it. Lots of features, easy on the wallet.

I'm going to give you a few options at a few price points for you to check out. I shoot alot of photos - 10's of thousands per year.
1. Panasonic Lumix LX3 - Incredible quality due to Leica lenses and also shoots video, AND autofocuses while subjects are moving. This is the smallest camera I recommend. Price: $350.00.
2. If you want something that is ALMOST DSLR quality than go with the new Canon G11. It has a swivel screen, lots of options, and can be as simple or as easy as you make it. It also has a solid feel to it. It's a bit larger then the Panasonic, but some people like to feel they are holding something in their hand. Love the 3" LCD swivel screen. Price: $495.00.
3. If you are ready for an entry level DSLR, then I suggest going over to www.adorama.com and picking up a Nikon D40 with 18-55mm Nikkor lens. They can be had for like 299.00 now I believe. Don't be afraid to get a refurbished Nikon either. I have a refurbished Nikon D5000 from them and it has the warranty and looks brand new. This Nikon DSLR is your best buy, and also your best camera of the ones I've mentioned as it will allow you to capture indoor low-lighting shots much better (no ISO grainieness or blur) and also will allow you to take action shots like a pro. It is bigger, sure....but it's the smallest DSLR on the market without going the ultra-expense 3/4"s DSLR market. Price: $299.00 or so from www.adorama.com.
I hope this helps.

The Cheap Kodak cameras have had ongoing problems with the lens jaming. You use it for a while and then one day you turn it on and it turns off again because of the lens problem. So use caution when buying a kodak. seek2find
