When I first read that material some months ago, I was so incensed at the outright distortions, misrepresentations and false reasoning that I set out to find who wrote this garbage. I am under the impression that "Third Witness" at another JW-discussion site could be responsible.

But do not bother entering into a discussion with that person - plays the man, not the issue.

I am most disappointed that it should be given such an airing at this place.

Thanks for the correction BS. I suppose if I am reading this correctly, the Society could try to argue that the 70 years could start all the way to 580 A.D.. If they can pull this off successfully, this could buy them a few centuries.

Jeremiah says "These nations shall serve seventy years " within the context of the prophecy who does this apply to ? Again when would that 70 years start ?

    Wobble:

Agreed but since when did facts prevent the Society from saying what it wants to keep the dubs in? I doubt the society would ever attempt to move the 70 years like I suggested because if they did then it would break so many other events (namely that pivotal destruction of Jerusalem moment) that the whole concept of the 2520 years would just be too laughable for all but the serious 'company' witnesses to believe.

Isn't that the site that our very own celebrated Scholar dreamed up??

This numerological number crunching by the WTS. is going beyond what is written in the bible anyways,

nowhere in Scripture or in the words of Jesus himself does he state that he will give a time of these

events through his holy spirit, ( No man will know the time of his return, accept the father )

So even attempting a numerological code breaking of dates and years is in direct violation of Jesus words.

The structured date of 1914 was institute by the WTS. for commercial reasons in support of their publishings simple as that,

and thats what it prime purpose still is to this day.

Its a great exploitation impressed on to people to control the publishing slaves who works bring money into the organization.

The tablets recently found in the ancient ruins of Babylon prove further that the 586 date is a correct one and I doubt it highly

that the important Babylonian scribes would purposely lay down incorrect dates to fool archaeologists 2000 years latter on in the future .

I read that site when I was first starting to wake up. It actually helped me to leave because it is so intellectually dishonest and full of Dub-speak (perhaps those are the same thing). It's actually painful to read.

Of course, all this is truly a moot point because:

    ACTS 1:

1 In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach 2 until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. 3 After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with a water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

6 So when they met together, they asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”

7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

PSac: That was the same thing I concluded when Scholar and I were going back and forth over this a few months back.

The witnesses who are old enough to understand the importance of 1914 and choose to remain loyal don't want to do a serious examination of the belief compared to the evidence. The others either don't know or don't think it is that important anymore.

    Garyneal,

    Yes, it seems that way.

I think that, eventually, the "new light" will redefine what 1914 was "really about" and of course, the sheep will be all the better for it.
