I just checked the Gwinnett County, GA library system and they do not have Ray's books. I'm shocked. But I guess the local JWs just check them out and "lose" them.

What a great idea Cab, and really I think Ray would approve.

There is the risk that occasionally the books may get stolen.

I've also seen the books remain in libaries for years until they get worn out.

At any rate, this could be a way for Ray's story to be accessible to JWs in their own hometown.

Great idea, Cabasilas. I like your included note idea, also.

And if the books go "missing"... we can donate a couple more to replace them.

This is a great idea. Would Cynthia Franz benefit more if we order the books from Commentary Press?

I mentioned to my mom that I would be donating a book to our local library and she said that she would contribute also.

I had wanted to make a comment in the book but think pasting the following tribute into the book would be great. It might need some slight adjustments though. It would have to be made smaller and could have a white background to save on ink and for easier reading, with permission from the person who created it of course.

I think adding some personal responses in how this book has helped an individual would also be informative.

Then we need to "advertise advertise advertise!!" to let people know that these books are available in their local library.

I wonder if writing a letter to the Editor could be one way. Most people have never heard of him, but letting people know what affect his books have had on people around the world might open the eyes of a few. The following is a very rough copy. If anyone could improve on it, it would be appreciated. I'm hoping that our local paper will use it without my signature because some know me and I don't want any problems. Does anyone know of any problems that could arise? I do still have my mom to protect even though she is out and my own family.

On Monday June 2, 2010 a man, who's name most people wouldn't recognize, passed away. But he left a profound legacy to many worldwide.

Raymond Franz, a former Governing Body member of a religious organization, exposed it, and helped many break free of the bondage.

Many people will be donating his books "Crisis of Conscience" and "In Search of Christian Freedom" to their local library. It is our hope that many who have been affected by this organization, through family or acquantances, will read one of his books.

    Quote from "Crisis of Conscience"

"Life is uncertain and when a man dies what he knows dies along with him - unless he passes it on while still in life.

What this book contains is written out of a sense of obligation to people who I sincerely love. In all good conscience I can say that it's aim is to help and not to hurt. If some of what is presented is painful to read, it was also painful to write. It is hoped that the reader will recognize that the search for truth need never be destructive of faith, that every effort to know and uphold truth will, instead, strengthen the basis for true faith. What those reading this information will do with it is, of course, their own decision. At least it will have been said, and a moral responsibility will have been met."

I just ordered two copies - a paperback version for my own use, and a 4th-edition printing for the local library... I bought used, [hey! I'm 'cheap'!!] but now I'll be able to pass on the clean, hardback version to my local library...

UPDATE on donating a (2004 copyright, hardback version) copy of "Crisis of Conscience" to my local library...

(Warning!! I am UPSET!!! There may be cuss words in this post!!)

I purchased two copies of "Crisis of Conscience". I kept the older one - the copyright 1983 one - and handed the nice, hardback, copyright 2004 version to a librarian at my local library...

I've been checking the library catalog, looking for the book...

After a month, it still hadn't shown up in the catalog, so I went over to the library today to check up on it...

The IDIOTS tossed it!!!! Didn't even "shelve" it; just looked at it and tossed it into the "$1 per hardback" bin!!!!

I hit THE ROOF!!!! I ripped the librarian a NEW ONE!!! I explained that this was an excellent expose', written about a cult/religion that is VERY SECRETIVE about its internal procedures, and that this was written by an INSIDER who'd been in the religion for over FORTY years, and who had reached the very TOP of the organization!!!

The librarian kept saying, "Well, the next time you donate a book..." I kept snapping, "There WON'T BE a NEXT TIME!!!"

They're going to look for it and return it to me - that is, if it wasn't sold FOR A DOLLAR!!!

    I am SO PISSED!!!

So - if any of you choose to donate a copy to your local library, first find out what their procedures are for "shelving" a book... It appears that I would have had to PLEAD THE VALUE OF THIS BOOK before these idiots would allow it on their shelves - but they have NO PROBLEM with "Harry Potter", Danielle Steele's SH*T, and other cheap trash of THAT ilk!!!!

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! I feel like dangling my best books in front of them, and then saying, "Sorry, you can't have these!!! You've already PROVEN that you lack the ability to discern REAL quality in books!!!"

On the bright side, I can boost the sales numbers for Ray's books by buying yet another copy...
