Tiger woods blamed his mental mistakes for his loss in the US Open. I agree with his statement. The open was there for the grabbing by any of the big names on the leader board. They all fell to the pressure.

As I have maintained for years, E. Woods - just doesn't face the competition of other eras. If he putts, he wins. If he doesn't he don't. Period.
It started on the first hole when he three putted. I stayed at the bar for another half hour, finished my beer and left to do other things. By that time it was just a question of how many of the big names were going to find ways to shoot themselves out of contention in typical fashion. As for the Irishman, his victory will not go down as very memorable - bogeying four of the last 10 holes, and probably, along with that Frenchman, never to be heard from again. To wit:

When Dustin Johnson fell apart it set the stage for Ernie Els, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods to storm into contention...and I expected to see some real fireworks coming down the stretch.
Imagine my disappointment as all three of those heavyweights faltered and couldn't even close up to McDowell who played even par golf.
Tiger cited mental mistakes but so should Els and Mickelson. You could see Mickelson's frustration as he missed 4 and 5 foot putts and they rolled by further than where he was to start. Els had a few good holes and I thought he might do it, then he started spraying shots all over the place.
I don't watch much golf, The Masters, The US Open, and The Open being the only ones I make a point to try to catch some of so I always hope for close matches and some drama. This closing round was anything but.
