Tiger woods blamed his mental mistakes for his loss in the US Open. I agree with his statement. The open was there for the grabbing by any of the big names on the leader board. They all fell to the pressure.

    Congrats to the Irish lad.

As I have maintained for years, E. Woods - just doesn't face the competition of other eras. If he putts, he wins. If he doesn't he don't. Period.

It started on the first hole when he three putted. I stayed at the bar for another half hour, finished my beer and left to do other things. By that time it was just a question of how many of the big names were going to find ways to shoot themselves out of contention in typical fashion. As for the Irishman, his victory will not go down as very memorable - bogeying four of the last 10 holes, and probably, along with that Frenchman, never to be heard from again. To wit:

"It really has become a habit of sorts in recent years for the superstars to yield the stage to journeymen in what is considered the toughest championship in the world to win. Woods fumbled it away to Michael Campbell at Pinehurst in 2005. Mickelson derailed himself with a double bogey at Winged Foot in 2006. Woods and Jim Furyk got passed down the stretch at Oakmont in 2007. Mickelson again stalled on the closing holes at Bethpage in 2009. If Woods doesn't make a 12-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole at Torrey Pines in 2008, Rocco Mediate is a U.S. Open winner. Now once again on a course that gave us defining moments -- Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Tom Kite and Tiger -- the big names frittered it away and let McDowell hoist the trophy despite four bogeys in his last 10 holes..........." http://www.cbssports.com/golf/story/13545808

As for E Woods - who cares. No class.

When Dustin Johnson fell apart it set the stage for Ernie Els, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods to storm into contention...and I expected to see some real fireworks coming down the stretch.

Imagine my disappointment as all three of those heavyweights faltered and couldn't even close up to McDowell who played even par golf.

Tiger cited mental mistakes but so should Els and Mickelson. You could see Mickelson's frustration as he missed 4 and 5 foot putts and they rolled by further than where he was to start. Els had a few good holes and I thought he might do it, then he started spraying shots all over the place.

I don't watch much golf, The Masters, The US Open, and The Open being the only ones I make a point to try to catch some of so I always hope for close matches and some drama. This closing round was anything but.

"Tiger Woods has reached a record divorce settlement with Elin Nordegren, according to a report by the London Sun.

Woods will pay his former wife between $750 million and $833 million, the report says, which would be the biggest payout ever seen in a high-profile divorce. In return, Nordegren, 30, can never publicly speak about reported affairs he had while they were married.

According to the deal, which is expected to be finalized soon, Nordegren gets complete custody of their children (3-year old daughter Sam and 1-year old son Charlie), but Woods gets to share in making decisions in their life.

Woods also has to keep his children away from his girlfriends or any other unmarried women that Nordegren does not know."

Tiger Woods in Ireland struggles to 7-over-par round at 1st overseas event since scandal

    ADARE, Ireland (AP)

"After another warm welcome from the Irish public, Tiger Woods was far less impressed with the line of questioning on Tuesday about his state of mind since the sex scandal that's wrecked his marriage. Following his 3-under-par 69 in his final round of the charity J.P. McManus Invitational Pro-Am, his first foreign appearance since the scandal, he met probing media questions with a show of tense, taciturn discipline. When asked whether his liaisons with other women had been "worth it" since it cost him his marriage and commercial endorsements, Woods replied, "I think you're looking too deep into this." He torpedoed the follow-up question with an icily firm "Thank you."

Faced with questions about why he was returning immediately to his Florida home rather than heading to Scotland to prepare for next week's British Open at St. Andrews, one of his favorite courses where he's won two previous Opens in 2000 and 2005, the previously easy-speaking Woods flipped a switch into staccato half-sentences......."
