Being a faithful, active JW in good stead means you are like a pipe with the flushed stuff coming out of the Governing Body passing through you on its way to everybody downstream.

If you try to filter it everything backs up. Understanding causes a filter impeding flow.

Explanations are like the Roto-Rooter gizmo that thrashes around and unclogs the backup.

Some people can smell the problem and others can't.

But, once you get away from this mess and then come back to sniff around it---the stench is completely unbearable!

Yes I agree with you...... its clever in a sly, cunning, deceitful, dumbing down way. I wonder how long it took them to come up with that one???

"here is the explanation we have been waiting for, it makes so much sense, its to do with the tribes of Israel and the overlap"

It makes so much sense that for the past 60 years the GB was too fucking stupid to see it before now...

    or

It's all bullshit made up because the generation that was to see the end is dead now

It was not too long ago, another publication referencing the same word "generation" also used the highlighted scripture in Exodus to explain the 'correct' understanding. The Insight on the Scriptures book Volume 1, page 917 makes this statement: "A generation commonly refers to all persons who were born about the same time. (Ex 1:6)"

However, now the Watchtower Society states according to the April 15, 2010, Watchtower: "It usually refers to people of varying ages whose livesoverlap during a particular time period; it is not excessively long; and it has an end. (Ex. 1:6)"

Ask your hubby, which one is it?

Trebor, he would just say it was " new light," that our understanding has been refined lol

If he'd jump on the 'new light' response. Ask, Does "new light" excuse false prophecy?

"From a purely human viewpoint, it could appear that these developments could hardly take place before the generation of 1914 disappears from the scene. But fulfillment of all the foretold events affecting the generation of 1914 does not depend on comparatively slow human action. Jehovah's prophetic word through Jesus Christ is: 'This generation [of 1914] will by no means pass away until all things occur.' (Luke 21:32) And Jehovah, who is the source of inspired and unfailing prophecy, will bring about the fulfillment of his Son's words in a relatively short time.--Isaiah 46:9,10; 55:10,11."
    --The Watchtower, May 15, 1984, pages 6-7

Note: The expression "[of 1914]" is in the original Watchtower text.

“‘However, the prophet who presumes to speak in my name a word that I have not commanded him to speak or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet must die. And in case you should say in your heart: “How shall we know the word that Jehovah has not spoken?” when the prophet speaks in the name of Jehovah and the word does not occur or come true, that is the word that Jehovah did not speak. With presumptuousness the prophet spoke it. You must not get frightened at him.’"--New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures - Deuteronomy 18:20-22.

GENERATION - the act of generating, in this case effluvium - it lasts as long as the GB lasts.

As mentioned above, Joseph and his brothers were a single generation because they all had the same father.

This does not apply to "overlapping" lifespans as The Watchtower is trying to do.

The Watchtower is just making things up.

I do not think the org has gone so far as to say a spiritual generation...although they may say that down the road.

My wife tried that one. I pointed out that they were all brothers and besides, the WT wasn't claiming it was one generation, but that it was two overlapping ones and went into the explanation about Freddy Brown Shoes that she will get in an assembly talk in a couple of weeks.

"Now show me an explanation that you would show a university professor or a potential convert at the door, and don't get confused with 'contemporary' and 'generation, they have different meanings and Jesus didn't say anything about contemporaries."

I haven't had my 'explanation' yet.
