I asked "What specifically?"
"The symposiums were great, each segment was short enough to keep you engaged" was the response.
My reply "So the WTS is catering for the short attention span TV generation."
"Uhh Yeah - but it was wonderful".
She couldn't specifically mention any point that really stood out. Boy the cognitive dissonance never stops!!
And there's the funny thing. From the entire convention, I rarely ever remembered more than one point. The drama and the new books were the only things I usually remembered most.
If the experience of most is like mine, you go through most of the program just too tired to concentrate on anything anyway. Once I got tired enough, I'd just write down scriptures and that was it. Once it was over, I never bothered to review it.
If you can't remember a specific point from a talk, it probably wasn't that fantastic, save that it was well-delivered. So...maybe she just had some speakers at her convention who TALKED REALLY LOUD TO MAKE A SPECIFIC SET OF POINTS. DO WE AGREE, FRIENDS? [Applause]
I heard from somebody in the know, that this convention was "the best one yet!" Someone else told me, "it was timely!" Yet, someone else told me, "it was so beneficial!" And yet, someone else told me, "it was so encouraging!"
I don't know who to believe.

I can't imagine most jws telling you that a movie was just generally enjoyable; they would have several detailed statements; or a sports event.
This was a pet peeve when I was a jw and I could tell them something specific. I understand why the WTS no longer depends on the memories of the rank and file when doing the review part on the service meeting. Even the elders have to be primed.

Ask her to give you specifics on what precisely was so "great" and "wonderful". what specific points were differnet than what she heard the year before?
The morning symposium about God's qualities was actually pretty good.
The fact that many JWs don't follow the principles is sad.

The afternoon talk that I've mentioned a few times here was the one full of the usual non-biblical speculation.
UC, I would then say, what new was shared from the scriptures that the end is closer, what could I share with someone who is not a witness that would convince them.

Thanks Blondie for your never ending wisdom. The Conventions start over here soon and I will make sure to ask these questions to my relatives should they bring up how wholesome it all was.
