Please Tell Me ...

When I use the colloquial expression, "this here," does it irritate you?

My mother talked - and others down here still do - that way.

She worked like a dog to see to it that her 12 children received an education. We did.

Mother deceased in 2005. One of my sisters and I like to use that expression as a bittersweet reminder of her and our victory over poverty and despair.

However, when I use it on here, it rankles a prominent poster.

If others feel that way, please let me know.

    I will discontinue it forthwith!

    Don't bother me none...

But I'm from the lil ole South as well, so I grew up with it and use it from time to time

It is a colorful regionalism to which I take no offense.

Don't we have bigger fish to fry?

Truthfully? I don't even notice it until someone mentions it. If it was a question of grammar and being uneducated, I would never be petty enough to point it out. If it's done on purpose, then I just grin. Of course, now that I know why you do it, I like it.
