  Jehovah does not expect us to be perfect in the absolute sense. He never expects more of us than we can do. (Jas. 3:2) Still, he does expect us to keep integrity. Is there a difference, then, between perfection and integrity? Yes. To illustrate: A young man loves a young woman whom he is going to marry. He would be foolish to expect her to be perfect. Yet, he would be wise to expect her to be wholehearted in her love for him, that is, to have romantic love for him alone. In a comparable way, Jehovah is "a God exacting exclusive devotion." (Ex. 20:5) He expects us, not to be perfect, but to love him wholeheartedly, giving worship to him alone. Jesus did say: "You must accordingly be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect." (Matt. 5:48) He evidently understood that even imperfect humans can be complete, or perfect, in a relative sense. w08 12/15 1:6

  What's hard to understand are the words of Jesus at Matt 5:48. Understood in a literal sense and lifted from the context, they don't fit with human experience. In context, Jesus is discussing the elevated standard of loving one's enemies, not just their neighbors. He's taking the Law of Moses and expanding on it while amplifying the underlying principal - in effect, one must do more than just love those who love them.

  The mind control is in force with that text. They bring out a scripture that says "we are dust", meaning, you're not worth the air you breathe but we as the Faithful and Discreet Slave will tell you how to live your life through our bullshit publications. Then bring out that Jehovah doesn't expect us to be perfect, but yet Jesus says that we must be perfect as our father is perfect, obviously, they like contradicting themselves or at least go beyond what is written.

  Then they finish up with my pet peeve word they overuse, evidently. Right. Absolutely no sense whatsoever. Of course, you say that to a "faithful" dub and you get the response, "you just lack faith, let the Faithful and Discreet Slave guide you and you shoul follow their spirit directed understanding."

  Uggghhh..... I think I just threw up a little....

  JW's have perfected perpetual guilt almost as well as the Catholics.

  Perfect but imperfect. Baptized but not completely approved. Conditional acceptance as long as the field service hours are kept up.

  I think a JW flashes the "imperfect" card every time a flaw is found in their organization, or if they are caught in a secret sin. By comparison, the rest of the world and Christendom is condemned for the same behavior.

  It makes sense for how they run their organization, but it is not supported by scripture. See how Peter and Paul's message of grace and redemption is cut-off from believing Witnesses, by referencing our inheritance in heaven (Ephesians 2:2-10, 1 Corinthians 6:11, 1 Peter 1:9). Witnesses, like the Jews before Christ, continue their works to deserve redemption. Paul describes the redemption freely offered by Christ, lest any man should boast (or moan in despair).

  I've thought for some time that prohibition leads to perversion. For example, the ill-conceived national alcohol prohibition in the 20's and 30's pushed alcohol underground and helped criminals prosper. Some of the wealthiest old families in Canada made their fortune in rum-running. I've heard that cultures that are open and relaxed about alcohol consumption also have the lowest rates of alcoholism.

  How many prohibitions is a Witness under? How many, such as birthday celebrations, are just plain silly? How many JW's privately celebrate and enjoy annual vacations, recreation, holidays, television, and rated movies, and simultaneously feel guilty about it? I'll bet anything that online porn is a major problem in the organization, simply because it is constantly referred to? No matter. Today's study says that if they sincerely desire a close relationship with Jehovah, these imperfections are tolerable.

  How different this is from the bible depiction of cleansing by grace, and a continual outworking of love in all our relationships with God's help?

  I missed the "evidently" insertion there. So Jesus is "evidently" smart enough to figure that out. And here I thought the bible suggests he may have been perfect, which in turn one would cause one to think when he comments on an issue it would carry a bit more weight than "evidently"
