Yesterday I was sitting here and all of a sudden realized I was humming one of those dreadful songs. I even remembered the words! <chills>.
So I sat here and started singing other songs out loud, which I normally don't do even though I live alone and don't have to listen to people begging me to stop singing.
So how do you get those songs out of your head?

I memorized all the songs from the old songbook; I can still recall some.
I was thinking of An Evening Song to Jehovah when I started this thread.

Only time they run through my head is if I'm at the meeting and it's playing. Other than that, they never come across my brain. With the switch to the new song book this year its going to be even easier to not even know what the songs are too.
I will add that the new song book is atrocious.
Almost never and that is amazing considering that I am a musician and played piano at the KH for years until they ended that. Once in awhile I access a thread here and hear a tune but it is quickly gone. Except for a few tunes, the WT songs are limited and unenjoyable. I have real music to enjoy.

That reminds me - when we built the new KH in Yukon, Oklahoma, my mother bought a new upright piano for them to use. When they switched to those awful soap-opera style records they did not offer to give it back. I guess it is either still there, or maybe they sold it for money.
JWoods, they probably sold it and put it in their own coffers or the WTS without any acknowledgment to your mother. I hope she took it off on her taxes.

Well, it was still just sitting there for about, what, 4 years or so when we all quit attending in the late 1970s. Water under the bridge now, of course. If I recall correctly, they first disbanded the circuit assembly orchestras when the first records came out (that pissed off a lot of faithful musical volunteers) - but left the KH piano optional. Then, word came down about a year or so after for all KHs to use the records.
