The German branch did a survey in 1994 but only published a chart in a brochure without exact figures.

    Sky,
Bad Boy asked what the ‘average’ age was. I believe you have average age confused with 'mean' age. Then again at 105, I’ll bet they’re pretty mean, on average that is.

    badboy,

It might be a stat that you could get the WT public affairs office to share... (just don't say you're Stephen Bates from The Guardian!) You might also ask what the mean age of the anointed are now and compare that to the general JW population.

Edited to correct "average" to "mean" - lol

I would love to know the answer to this question.

I am certain that the average age is increasing at a rapid rate. Consider some factors:
    - Conversions are way, way down.
    - Half of the young people leave.
    - Defections are up
    - Every year, everyone gets a year older

Since most people change their religions when they are fairly young, these trends mean that they are losing a lot of young people, and not refilling them with new converts.

I would bet that their average age is rising by about 1.5 years annually.

In my area, there are very few youths. Many rural congregations are filled with 70+ members. Every year another rural congregation is disbanded.

There was a thread sometime last year, before Sept. on this board, that asked what ages are the posters on this board. I was surprised that the ages were a lot higher than I thought. Many of the pictures of the posters are young, but this questionaire showed that ages were far highter.

While the thread does not indicate what average age of JWs are, it does give an indication. Like the mainstream churches the average age of attenders are little old ladies, mostly, attending church, so likewise with JWs.

I think my signature may answer...

"In 1995 The Watchtower seemed like just another religion, but it wasn't.
It was different in many ways, as so were those that did the witnessing the average age of which was 46...
In the Anointed he was 90. N-N-N-Ninety."
