You come to my door and I feel like I have to say yes to anything you say

Since I am among witnesses, I am sure that most of you had more than one door slammed to your face. I have not had that experience, yet I think it must be awful to walk the streets knowing full well that most people aren't remotely interested in what you have to say, and will probably mistreat you. Yet, I think I can share the other side of the coin.

I believe that one of the many reasons whyh door-to-door preaching fails is the fact that, even if you're willing to listen to the person, very quickly you realize that the questions and the material presented to you are all organized so you can only say "yes" to whatever the witness says. For example, the classic: "See how bad the world is. Would you like to live in Paradise Earth?" Of course the answer has to be "yes". But then, you get the goosebumps of sort of feeling that if you keep saying "yes", you don't know where you will end up. So you end the conversation.

But if they don't do that, then the witnesses can't have you where they want you.

Just commenting. Would love to hear opinions on this.

To someone who never read the bible (but desperately wanted to), I noticed the easy-read-along method, but I didn't care. I was too excited to be learning so many things!

It wasn't until later, after I'd read the bible through - and many books more than once - that I noticed that the scriptures didn't always seem to be matching up with the teachings. Some even seemed to be complete opposite of the scriptures.

But then, you get the goosebumps of sort of feeling that if you keep saying "yes", you don't know where you will end up. So you end the conversation.

I do remember this feeling at the door though, or at the park, with random JW's before I started my bible study. Many times I would just pretend not to be home.

I used to pretend not to be home after i stopped attending

the Hall, but i didn't stop studying the scriptures, and with the

one book i had left, i found so many things that didn't jibe

with some of the newer magazines, now i'm armed and

dangerous, on the weekend i open my doors and curtains

so they'll know i'm home, now i get dissapointed when they

don't come, but i keep on waitin, yea, i keep on waitin'

and when they come it makes my day. cause they look like

deer in headlights when i pull out that crap, just love it

The literature and scripted presentations are all designed to have that effect. A crime-free paradise, resurrected loved ones, living forever are dangled as a carrot early on in the indoctrination process. Who would say no to any of these things?

As a "born in" I often wondered why people listened to us. If I had not been born I never would have listend to JWs or any other door to door group. I just don't get the appeal.

Me either. I probably wouldn't even be reading this board or typing this post.

Part of the DTD pretraining is to goat you into the WTS. marketrting scmeeme, which they're well verrsed in before the service work is done.

The WTS programing is all set up to ackowlege persuction and make the JWS seem to themseves that theyr are true martrs for the cause.

The simplist answer to give the JWS and the Morons is " Wer're not interested , no thank you "

To talk to a brainwashed individual who thinks they have all they ever needed to know is futilely redundant.

There were maybe only 2 or 3 occasions in my 25 years of experience in the Door-to-Door™ work that I had what would be considered a good conversation with the Householders™. One instance stands out in my mind, though, for the way the Pioneer™ Sister™ tried to take over the conversation and went totally off-topic. Both the Householder™ and I looked at each other with a "WTF?" kind of look, and that was pretty much the end of the discussion.

It only recently dawned on me that the Pioneer™ Sister™ wanted to impress the Householder™ so they'd want to Study™ with her. Massive FAIL.

In any event, with that kind of negative "success" rate, and it's unquestionable value as a complete and utter waste of time, it's a wonder how JWs can even face the thought of going Door-to-Door™ anymore.

Any knowledgeable person can sink any JW who tries to claim that the world is so-ooo bad, the end is near. Hey, haven't you heard of the black plague 500 years ago? serfdom? polio? diabetes deaths before they had insulin? Dying from childbirth? -work until you die, before pensions and social security? Slavery, womens rights/votes, I could go on and on. I know as the householders sometimes did that to me.
