same for me Besty and the rest of us folks here, if I walk into my former KH I'm treated as tough I've got a very contagious disease who has just crawled out from some rock, The Ripper and Porter would probably be getting invites to cong barn dances

If it hadn't been JWs who had reached him with prison ministry it would have been some other do-gooder religion that thinks they can save souls...

But it is pretty f'g irritating that they'll shun someone simply announced as no longer a JW but yet advocate that this guy is remorseful and should be allowed to worship with them. I'd rather hang out with DFd people than serial killers...but that's just me...

I am stuggling to find the full court text but it does appear that a respresentative of the Jehovah's Witnesses made some statement on his behalf for his case to be released or have a minimum term (something that wasn't set at the time of his trial). No comment would have been made by the judge if some statement or presentation had not been made.

Sutcliffe or Coonan (as he is now known) should never be released. Both for the safety of others and himself. He was almost killed 3 times in prison (rumour has it he had a price put on him by the Kray Twins) and was/is a schizo who only took treatment after it was forced on him!

What is more interesting is the wording of the judge who describes the JW statement as "emphatic" that he (Sutcliffe) shows remorse.

The judge’s ruling also reveals that Sutcliffe has been befriended over the last 15 years by Jehovah’s

Witnesses, who are emphatic that he now shows

    remorse for his crimes.

Brizzzy, I share yours and others' concerns about JWs long-term prison-based association with this depraved man. Mind you, prisons and religions have long been cosy bedmates. Once a man is behind bars, he's a sucker for do-gooder believers of all persuasions and suddenly "God" seems so understanding and forgiving whilst the families of victims are not.

Having said that, I've read nothing that indicates the JWs are advocating hof his release - the most the media have said is the above quote. I'd be interested to know if they did actually present a case for his release from prison.

Sorry but that really made me laugh mostly because I was once at a congregation barn dance where this guy I didn't know was creeping me out; we found out later that he had got out of prison the day before. Some doofus thought this paedo he had been studying with may enjoy a bit of upbuilding association.

Here is the verdict from the judge.

Still not clear but looks like the JW were named in a report by by a physcologist that was comissioned to show reform of Peter Sutcliffe.

From the tone of the text, the Judge didn't buy it!
