In my mind, there's no doubt that our planet is in serious trouble. However, the problems facing us are altogether new and not even hinted about in Scripture: Unconstrained population growth in third world countries, overreliance on fossil fuel and climate change. Witnesses like to trot out Rev. 11:18 as putative prophecy about environmental degradation but a closer look shows that Rev. is echoing the words about the Noachian deluge and speaking of people ruining the earth with violence. While it's true that there are parts of the world where people are starving, there are actually more people on this planet who are obese. (Shoot--I want to include a link to the Scientific American podcast on this topic but for some reason it won't let me)

And disease? It boggles my mind that they are trying to pitch this as being a worse problem than at other times in human history! It's particularly intersting to check out the WHO's Millenium Goals update at its website. In fact, evidence that people are actually in far better health now than at any other time is the fact that we even have a population boom! Even in underdeveloped countries where AIDS is prevalent, people for the most part are living longer and their kids are surviving to reproduction age.

I'm not Pollyanna-ish over the state our planet is in. But the fact is, disease, hunger, and warfare are not worse now than ever before--it's the other problems we need to worry about. And, no, earthquakes are not one of them.

This religion is suppose to operate out of love, but it mainly operates out of fear. Scare the weak JW's into coming to the meetings and doing more. Whip up enough frenzy and more will even give more money to the WTS instead of leaving it to their children.

Since when is an SUV powered by oatmeal?

There's enough damn oil in the gulf to have kept the planet running for another thousand years. And I bet the WT and the GB have a lot of stock in those damn oil companies. Pin the tail on the damn donkey where it belongs!

    Da Cheech your statement:

he even mentioned that every bad news in the world should make us happy, for our liberation is that much "nearer".

ties in nicely with what Think About It said:

This religion is suppose to operate out of love, but it mainly operates out of fear. Scare the weak JW's into coming to the meetings and doing more. Whip up enough frenzy and more will even give more money to the WTS instead of leaving it to their children.

It's like the WTBS is working everyone up into a blood frenzy. KILL KILL KILL! DIE YOU INFIDELS! THE END IS COMING!

Perhaps he was reading this..................or this below

It’s not that there isn’t enough food. A new study by the Earth Policy Institute shows that the grain grown by US farmers in 2009 to make biofuels was enough to feed 330 million people at average world consumption rates.

The report argues that in a fight between cars and people, the cars would win. The amount of grain needed to fill the tank of an SUV with ethanol just once could feed a person for a year. Even if the entire US grain crop were converted to ethanol, it would satisfy at most 18% of US automotive fuel needs.

There's cause and effect relationships for everything in the universe. The weather can actually cause negative environmental changes in landmass.

Andhra floods may cause earthquakes: Scientist

The heavy rains and floods in Andhra Pradesh may cause earthquakes, Professor and Head of the Department of Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, Ramesh P Singh said in Kanpur on Saturday.

With heavy rainfall and floods in Andhra Pradesh, water is likely to percolate under the Earth's surface through fracture zones, commonly found in the shield areas, leading to increase in the pore pressure that may cause earthquakes, he said.

One of the probable reasons for the occurrence of earthquakes is injection of water in the Earth or its withdrawal as this action increases or reduces the subsurface pressure, Singh said.

He appealed to government agencies, academic institutions and scientists involved in earthquake related studies to monitor Andhra Pradesh and surrounding areas.

He said the studies might help save lives and property in the event of any major disaster.

    Floods displace 15,000 in Chile

    May 23, 2008

SANTIAGO (Reuters) - Heavy rains and flooding that killed five people and displaced thousands in south-central Chile have collapsed road and rail bridges, closed the world's largest underground copper mine and left many in the capital without drinking water, the government said on Friday.

Many schools remained closed in Santiago and elsewhere after floodwaters churned up sediment at water treatment plants, while several rivers burst their banks farther south, deluging thousands of homes.
