Thanks for the summary. As many of us know, the organization is bleeding elders and MS. In my old congregation, there were more former elders/MS than current. Most of these guys still believed (as far as I could tell), but were not interested in the politics, etc., associated with the position. Also, many in the under-40 crowd also appear to have little interest in serving. I don't blame them. It's a thankless job and a waste of time.
For years, the Society has piled heavy loads on elders and servants. Now the chickens are coming home to roost.

Thanks Blondie for the time you take to write this Review. Gives me some incite into what my husband is hearing at the KH. Recently he's taken on a more "quiet spirit" and this past Saturday he was gone to the KH for about 4 hours in the afternoon. I think he's doing FS. Could it be he's trying to "Reach out for a Fine Work" and move up the ranks? Would the fact that he has an unbelieving wife slow his progress?

today, if he was gone 4 hours in the afternoon, he was probably involved with work at the KH. Maintenance, landscaping, interior cleaning, project work etc. Usually that is the time that the brothers schedule these things. Your husband, by showing up, is also "reaching out" for higher office, by availing himself to do these chores, he is showing the elders that he is "worthy."

today - If he was an adult convert, having a nonJW (I can get myself to type unbelieving) wife would not hold him back in the least. If he was a born-in who married outside the organization, then he may not be viewed as "exemplary" and that could hold him back or at least make it more difficult.
onemore - I haven't heard anything about the materials (other than a new Flock book) or program of the new elders school scheduled for the fall. I assumed it would be similar to what they had for the COBOEs. Any specifics you could share would be great. And, congrats on stepping "aside". That awkward feeling that all eyes are upon you and the comments about how much your parts are missed will go away soon enough. I'll bet you feel as if a giant weight as been lifted!!

Hi Blondie! Thanks for this, feel better and take good care of yourself. If Jehovah is answering prayer in an unpresidented way with increases in congregations and baptisms why not in elders and ministerial positions?
Why has Jehovah made increases in halls, congregations and baptisms and left off not having people in positions to care for this increase?
If as the Watchtower is saying in paragraph one is true, then Jehovah has failed to make sure that men would be in place to handle this increase.
The answer is obvious.

We have 5 elders, 3 of which were drafted in from a local congregation as we keep losing our own. They either move away, (can't stand the congregation) fall away, or are D/Fed.
The MS situation is similar, 3 in total, 1 of which is an ex-elder.

I KNEW there was a reason you've been on my mind this week. Best of health to you.
Hubby was was stumped by paragraph four, as it is not at all clear what priveleges baptized men are to reach out for. Perhaps because the mundane tasks would look too ridiculous in print. The few that come to mind are bathroom cleanup and parking lot direction. Three guesses which one the men line up for.
It gives me comfort that my stubborn "status" continues to hold back hubby for additional work priveleges.
I think the elimination of the second midweek meeting allows the average JW to shake off the religious mindset for a few days. Those few extra days gives them time to consider if they really want to go out in field service on a sunny Saturday morning. A few more days of selfhood, followed by a few extra days of guilt.
