I am putting together some things to bring up when the elders talk me (i got ratted out for being apostate), so I need some info on the following. I am putting some of this together myself, you you folks here seem that have that stuff handy ...

    - List of Babylonian kings on the CD (which articles) to show 587 is the date the list gets you to

    - Article that the WT wrote saying that if you study the bible on your own you will turn apostate (i seem to recall it, but not sure if it exists)

    - anything else

I have a lot pulled together and am working on those, but i thought someone here might already have it.

    Thanks!

When I checked myself for the 607 v 587 thing, the more recently available comments avoided dates and archaeology. They just said that "the world" says one thing but we believe the Bible ...meaning that the agreed 539 date plus 2 years to get back , minus seventy years as prophesied would equal 607 BCE

    NVL,

This is the best thread I've found for 587 vs. 607.

    Easy to understand.

    Good luck to you, sweetie.

    Geez NVL,

I hate that you got ratted on, I found that there are two

kinds of witnesses, The ones that are ratted on, and the

ones that aren't caught yet. If the elders really did their jobs

in keeping the cong clean, they would all be empty. No matter

what happens no one can make you feel bad about yourself

unless you give them the power over you to do so.

    Keep you head up

Are you planning to stay with this organizattion or leave??You may or may not plant a seed , but over all , you would confirm their(elders) investigation as to you being a apostate.

Hey NVL, the first two posts in Palmtree's link contain the WT Literature cites for the 587/607 king list issue.

In general, this site is a treasure trove of WT quotes: http://www.qwotes.info

Here are some quotes that tell Witnesses not to study the Bible on their own or have their own ideas about the Bible:

    *** Watchtower 1967 June 1 p.338 Move Ahead with Jehovah's Organization ***

12 How will we put these four things into effect? First, study: We may think of study as hard work, as involving heavy research. But in Jehovah's organization it is not necessary to spend a lot of time and energy in research, for there are brothers in the organization who are assigned to do that very thing, to help you who do not have so much time for this, these preparing the good material in The Watchtower and other publications of the Society. But you do not study enough? Take this suggestion: Often the very best and most beneficial studying you do is that done when you read a new Watchtower or Awake! or a new book with the joy of getting the new truths and a fresh view.

    *** Watchtower August 1, 2001 p. 14, par. 8 ***

First, since "oneness" is to be observed, a mature Christian must be in unity and full harmony with fellow believers as far as faith and knowledge are concerned. He does not advocate or insist on personal opinions or harbor private ideas when it comes to Bible understanding. Rather, he hascomplete confidence in the truth as it is revealed by Jehovah God through his Son, Jesus Christ, and"the faithful and discreet slave." By regularly taking in the spiritual food provided "at the proper time" — through Christian publications, meetings, assemblies, and conventions — we can be sure that we maintain "oneness" with fellow Christians in faith and knowledge. — Matthew 24:45.

While showing the elders that 607 is wrong, you can point out to the elders that since 607 is wrong, Jesus never returned in 1914 and never appointed fds in 1919 thus gb is a fraud and anything that comes from them deserves to be questioned:)

If you show anything outside of wts teaching you will be labeled an apostate and df so if that's the way you're going might as well give them some food for thought.

They can't do anything to you based on the allegations of one person.

If you bring up doctrinal issues with the Elders™, that will confirm the accusation of Apostasy™, and you'll be DFd unless you state that you believe the Organization™ / Faithful & Discreet Slave™ is Spirit Directed™.

It depends on the outcome you want to have, really. You aren't going to prove anything to Elders™ who are looking for an excuse to DF you and make an example of you for questioning the Organization™. You won't win over any JWs who are super sensitized to label any information that is contrary to WTS dogma as Apostate™. If you are trying to hang on to relationships within the Organization™, subtlety is the key.
