What Is The Watchtower Afraid Of?

If you follow the current nonsense being taught by the Society, in its latest magazines and assembly parts, there seems to be a dominant theme about near worship of the "Faithful Slave" and tiresome nagging about 'obey, obey, obey'.

    My unanswered question is: why?

If they were the Empire in Star Wars, I would expect to hear Dark-robed members of the Evil Governing Body muttering about " a disturbance in the Force".

Anyhow, what has changed to generate this sudden demand for obedience to their supposed authority? Some years ago, they panicked after contributions collapsed in the 'voluntary donation arrangement'. It was all they could talk about, $$$$$$$$$.

So, what has provoked them into this? I can try to guess: evidence that they are losing their hold on the core of the organization and fear that changes will make this worse.

It's getting noteworthy how many long time Witnesses are succumbing to private doubt - and sometimes, causing shock by giving up altogether. In addition, these 'Sons of Bernie Madoff' GB types may be considering radical changes that they fear will cause further serious disaffiliation.

Suppose they had to abandon printing completely to avoid costs and liability?

Suppose they dumped the Awake entirely?

Suppose they go ahead with the changes needed to get rid of C.O.'s?

Suppose they had to change the blood issue to go with individual conscience?

They may fear what happens next, given that they may be privy to internal stats and scandals that suggest their "authority" is mostly a facade as it is.

There is always a reason for these things, in reactionary Watchtowerland. Something or someone is threatening them......

Probably just the internet, and the fact that it is so easy now to get the real story on the org. Probably there is no real growth. I mean do any people really come in by means of FS? If they lose people they lose money. They have to exert control in order to scare people into submission.

Fear of control and displeasing Jehovah. They at times feel that Jehovah and Jesus are not happy with things and so they want to tighten the belt. Fear of rebellion and getting the youth to buy into the org and the way things are done. Lawsuits and exposure of coverups are running them scared. All Bethel speakers have been instructed to follow outlines to the letter and give no private views in any talks. Talks can only be recorded for personal use, talks recorded for shut-ins and then have to be destroyed later. Lawyers are running every move and accountants are running all the numbers, everyone will soon have to print everything off of PDF files online (I look for this happening very soon).. COs will continue for at least another year or two, but could come down to more regional, local levels with substitutes. 2 day Circuit Assemblies will go to 1 long day - I look for that happening in another year or 2. Letting the stranglehold off in some things, showing it as loving and then demanding strict obedience. They will do that since they are personally responsible for every single last pub, pio, CO and even inactive person alive. And really according to scripture they are. So, the bottom line I see, they don't want displeasure and punishment from on high. It could be a long haul!

I don't see them afraid of the internet for apostasy, particularly. I think they obsess about internet porn to a greater degree especially since it pops up on their radar screen in regard to elders and MS's getting into trouble. I think they will develop a 'don't ask, don't tell' policy about it since they risk losing every healthy male otherwise!

Maybe they are feeling cornered and irrelevant and therefore are reacting to a perceived lack of power. The courts dump liability on them. Their lawyers tell them what they have to do. The Treasurer and others tell them about costs and lagging contributions. They try to tighten control but it's all silly and futile in a networked world. The defection of valued Witnesses may be the last straw.

They can't go on forever with this tiresome theme. They'll only end up embarassing themselves by beating it to death.

What are they afraid of? 2014, negative "growth" reports, severe losses in donations, having to stop the presses, lawsuits over pedophiles and the blood issue, paying benefits to Bethelites and C.O.'s.

This is the thin line we try to identify; the line between them being evil cult leaders and them being victims of the cult themselves.
The training that got them to the top makes them panic about not being able to continue expanding the corporation. That's what the presidents up through Fred Franz were all about and switching to the power residing in the governing body put the pressure on them to keep doing the same. The pressure is generated by their "victim" status. They have accountants breathing down their necks because they are trained to watch the bottom line and force it to stay in the black.

They are afraid they have let down Jehovah and/or each other and/or themselves. It's like, maybe if they don't solve the financial situation and get another year of positive growth, C.T. Russell himself will tap them on the shoulder and send them packing.

Best case scenario is that they will continue to panic as their silly ideas like the overlap generation don't work and kids don't stay no matter what they do and they have no further choices on what properties to sell.

I think getting rid of the COs would be the best thing that could happen. The WT org would begin to be controlling and they would begin to care less about individual KHs. It's a vicious parasitic circle we have in the WT org. The WT org has to have loyal followers to be the truth and the JWs need to be constantly reminded that they alone have the truth and that their leaders will lead them to the paradise earth. JWs are hooked on their, never have to die- I'm gonna be in paradise earth, dogma. They won't let go of that without a fight, which is why they are so happy to have a new teaching on the 1914 generation- they can suspend their doubts about the paradise earth/we alone will survive Armageddon, teachings for another 30 years. Most of the leaders in Bethel want this to happen too, and as long as millions of JWs clap and yell hooray at conventions, they will keep shoveling the bull twinkies to them.
