Hi all,
how can the gb teach that the number 144,000 at rev 7.4 is a literal fixed number?
they teach that the 12 tribes of 12,000 each at rev 7.5-8 are symbolic and the anointed don't have to be literal israelites.
so either all of it is literal or all of the descriptions of these numbers in rev are symbolic also?

So if you take Revelation literally there will be 144,000 Isrealites here on the earth after Armegeddon and everyone else goes to heaven or hell?
The Societies interpretation is all over the map and doesn't make sense.
If we will ever understand the Bible, especially a gnostic book like Revelation, we have to go to the source.... Gnostic Kabbalah, which is ancient metaphysical science. All matter is "vibrating", and that is certainly also true of DNA, but DNA is "quantum", which means it transcends many more octaves than what humans can currently sense. Love has a higher frequency than fear, its opposite, and this emotion lines up with what mainstream scientists have called "junk DNA" and activates it, thereby enabling that part of our DNA that was scrambled about 50,000 years ago which basically disconnected our brains. Thus we use only about 2 percent as per Einstein. This confirms that the only teaching of Jesus that we need to know are in the first 2 commandments, just as he stated. There's a very interesting series of videos called "Quantum Communication" that you can google.

Because of the power of 12, the 144,000 represents the number of harmonic resonance. These people have ascended because of their love and light.
If these things were not true there would be no basis for astrology and no reason for the "full moon" effect that every police force and emergency room around the world is well aware of. This is why the universe works on a base 12 number system... we'll never figure anything out using decimal!

Just curious, if the 144K have ascended (maybe that's why so many are claiming to see UFO's) what happens to the rest of us---lake of fire? Ressurection back here?

The earth is going to ascend to a higher octave, the 4th dimension if you will. The 144,000 are Lightworkers who gathered in prayer on the earth's chakras in August of 1987 and this was called Harmonic Convergence. This was a success because we were given free will, and it wiped out all the negative prophecies like Armageddon that certainly could have happened. People who are selfish and cannot raise their vibrational level to go with it are going to die off, where they will be reincarnated on another evolving planet to give it another try. The Lake of Fire is symbolic for the place of consciousness where "egos" have to be dissolved. These egos are not to be confused with the "self", they are false identities that were programmed into us by our parents, teachers and mentors that cause all of our pain and suffering. The body and soul die, but we all have an inner spirit that is a part of God and eternal (Eccl. 12:7). When we die, this conscious part of us goes back "behind the veil", minus the "personality" that we had during incarnation. All your memory of past lives comes back, which is right now stored on your Akashic record. This happens when the 12 strands of DNA are activated. From what I understand, with this new energy coming in at 2012 and beyond, the next time we reincarnate we will have our memories intact, which will be quite an advantage!

Good luck trying to find 144,000 virgin Jewish men (ok old joke) , and then there is the putdown of women in the account, no women in the lineup and its defiling to be with a woman?
so then, can someone tell me if this 144,000 is literal or symbolic? only i can remember pondering this 40 odd years ago.

I consider myself a somewhat "serious JW lurker" and I have no idea if it's symbolic or literal. If the entire book of revelation were literal, and we really got to see many headed dragons and a whore riding a wild beast, that would be a sight to see. I find it improbable however that most, if not all, the book of Revelation is symbolic, but the number 144,000 is not. That, and that fact that there were hundreds of thousands of Christian Martyrs, in the first century alone, who died instead of compromising their beliefs. Then again, the holy spirit does not reaveal the "deep" truths of God to me, he only reveals those to the representatives of the Faithful slave at Brooklyn Headquarters...
The official JW teaching is that the 144,000 is literal because it is contrasting a specific number with a un-numbered "great crowd".
