Did "Move Ahead" make it to the new songbook? Does anybody still on the inside know if the news songs are being well received by the rank and file? I wonder what bullshit reason they came up with for the need to replace the songbook.
Kingdom Song Hangover

One song that is particularly disturbing to me now is the one that had lyrics about 10,000 falling at your very side, yes thousands at your right hand, etc.... and how glorious it will be to see this wholesale slaughter.
"Soon all his foes shall lick the dust, before him they must cower..." - another splendid line.

Awww ... Hammie!
I get all choked up when I sing Daily Walking With Jehovah.
"Soon all his foes shall lick the dust, before him they must cower..." - another splendid line.
"Soon all His foes shall lick the dust, for now has come His hour
His God Jehovah bares His arm, the trumpet sounds a loud alarm
Be wise, you rulers, do no harm, you judges own Christ's power
Kiss the Son lest God be angry and you perish in the way
Happy are all those who put their trust in Him toooooday.'

Snowbird, are you sure it's not cower? I could have sworn it's that as it's one I memorized at one time. It has been a while though...

Could be.
I'm writing from memory only.

3. For, see, the time has come at last
For Christ to reign in power.
Soon all his foes shall lick the dust;
Before him they must cower.
His God, Jehovah, bares his arm.
His trumpet sounds a loud alarm.
Be wise, you rulers, do no harm;
You judges, own Christ’s power

I will just start humming a kingdom malady for no reason. Old habits die hard. The words are so crazy to me now.

I really hate that they changed the wording and melodies of some songs.
It's would have been bearable if they came out with new songs that had fresh melodies, but to change old songs and music is just very disgusting and manipulative.
Then to be reminded to "practice" for the CO's visit and for the Assemblies, so we'll be prepared to sing "well". It DISGUSTS me!
That said, there's melodies that will pop in my mind and are hard to get of my head.
On funny thing happened years ago when I was a teenager.
A very young, little brother was in the row in front and the song that tells of Jesus actions and sacrifice then goes "For this Christ was exalted..."
The little guy liked to sing at the top of his voice, and was a good little reader and commenter at meetings, a little genius, but this time he sang with all his might...
"FOR THISSSS CHRIST WAS EXHAUUUSSSTED!" which made sense since Jesus was mention as doing all these things in the previous stanzas. Right?
And I just couldn't keep it together for the rest of the song, people all around were similng and smirking and trying their best to keep singing along as the little brother kept on singing his heart out.
It was precious.

Here I am, send me, send me.......that was a catchy little ditty, wasn't it ? As a kid, I always felt eeeeextra guilty during this song...I wished that I truly wanted to be in the ministry like all the good folks around me did. I used to say "Here I am send John send John" (John was my older brother. The neighbor kids used to call him Johnny Jehovah LOL !)
Yep, I often find myself humming or thinking about the lyrics of the Kingdom songs. But I also knew a lot of Christmas Carols by heart since childhood (still do), and I grew up as a strict Witness and never even celebrated it once. For good or for bad, Music reaches places that ordinary words don't reach.
Group singing has long been used to unite people together for religious and political work. Schools and sports teams, whip up the emotions of their supporters through use of songs, fanfare and drum beats, because music tugs at ones heartstrings and often extends to a deeply personal level. Music can unite an entire generation of people because it often represents the aspirations, heartbreaks, achievements and goals of a people living at a specific time period. Regardless of where one lives or what religion one is, humans seem to have a need to express their lifes experiences through music. It shouldn't suprise any one of us that these songs pop up in our minds still. I don't think anyone should assign any significance to the fact that this happens though. I'm sure those, still alive, who belonged to the Hitler Youth, can still remember the songs they sang in their ralleys and how these songs made them swell with pride and may still bring up warm and fuzzy memories for them when they think about them today. We often look back to the past with warmer feelings than what we actually experienced.
