I'd love nothing more than to think I hadn't wasted the first 35 years of my life reading, studying, memorizing and meditating on the Bible.

I am sorry, Terry. I did this for about a year. Most of the time that I did it, this one scripture kept coming to mind: . John 5:39-30 "You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life." . Thinking about that just now, perhaps it makes more sense that some answers can't be found in the bible. Perhaps they're not there so that we have no choice but to see that we HAVE to turn to Christ alone. (just a thought) . Tammy

An excellent view to have, if we part from the assumption that ALL in the bible was insipired by God ( It wasn't) and that God wanted a BOOK to be"His Word" ( He didn't).

My head hurts! Tammy, you just broke off a piece of my frontal lobe and it's lodged in my duodenum.

I have maintained for some time that parts of the Bible are there to get us to ask questions (of ourselves) not to provide answers.

I've always maintained that just because clouds look like Abraham Lincoln and alligators doesn't mean our mind isn't playing tricks!

We project "meaning" unwittingly. But, it often is just random water vapor.

Terry I did the same thing you did for 33 years! When I found out that what I had believed was not true,I could not accept that I had been duped all those years. The very strong desires implanted in me concerning living forever in heaven ( Catholic upbringing ) living forever on a paradise earth ( Watchtower upbringing ) led me on "The Search For Truth" concerning these two conflicting teachings.

I have concluded, and not very lightly, that the only way I could ever accept for myself what is true when it comes from men and their teachings including all the various culuters, disciplines and 'Holy Writings' of other belief systems, is by having an epiphany.

Not withstanding that, I have reached my stopping point at Deism.

Thank you for all your topics and post responses you make with such clarity.

    Oh no!

Sorry, Terry. It was just a passing thought. (That's kind of a conundrum though. Besides, I'm a believer. I don't know how to think, and therefore, have thoughts )

One theory of why certain apostles allegedly had no idea what was happening is that Gospel account was written by people with slightly different beliefs to discredit the opposing Gospel; e.g. John writes that Matthew didn't have a clue what was happening around him, therefore how can his account of events be right?

    Pretty funny, really!

It seems like the final draft of the Bible in the 4th century had some problems getting the conflicting stories edited out. I guess it was because Constantine was in a hurry for those first official Bibles.

Hey Moshe, do you know how many of the 50 approved Constantine bibles still exist as preserved specimens of God's perfectly ordained Truth?

    Anybody want to guess?
