    Cult,

My Point was that Jeremiah was reaming the Scriibes for writing crap and saying it was God's word.

You ask which are we to believe, that God commited an evil act and caused the slaughter of 42 children or that the scribes wrote that as a lesson to all now the fuck with the prophest ( and with them by default).

I reply, IF you beleive that God is love and there is no darkness in God, the answer is evident, however, if you believe that God is capable of horrendos acts that we, as lowly humans, KNOW to be wrong then, well, your answer is also evident.

The choice to see the word of God as letters in a book or to see the word of God as love is, as always, YOUR choice.

As a Christian I do not except this passage as the truth. The Word of God teaches that we are to bless and pray for those that curse and persecute us.

In Venezuela, my wife's biological mother...who is an hechicera (witch)...and makes her living from it...found out her grand daughter (my wife's niece) was being sexually molested by her father (my sister in law's husband.)

She called evil down on him, in her way.

He was horribly killed in an automobile accident days later.

Make of that what you will. I've drawn no conclusions.

I think that, if a perosn is to do two things, they will get a different view on things:

Read the NT and then read the OT, you get a view of God.

Read the OT and then the NT, you get a different view of God.

Read the OT as a christian and NOT taking the bible as inerrant, you get an whole different view of God.

It all depends on how we approach the bible and with what in our heart.

The fact that there are warnings in the OT and NT about the scribes making the "word" of God what THEY want it to be, is enough of a reason to look at the bible with "test everything" in our minds and hearts.

Sylvia: How would you answer the questions, especially a and d?

    PS: I agree.

I see it like this: Suppose I find a box of chocolate and it says on the box: "Taste the chocolates, all the chocolates in this box taste good". I begin to taste the chocolates, and most are really good. But once in a while, I find a chocolate that taste very, very bad. The box also says: "If you find a chocolate that taste bad, its your tastebuds that does not understand good taste!".

First off, i dont think its a very satisfying explanation. But even if I buy it, well, if we have established i dont have good taste, is it then reasonable to ask me to verify they taste good in the first place?

The old testament is full of this kind of thing.

If society did not hold it as "holy" due to superstition and tradition, it might very well be viewed as the history of a master serial murderer and his band of followers.

Some people "play around" with things that they really shouldn't, it never ends well for them or others.

The stories I could tell you...anyways.

    a) Is it categorically a wrong and evil thing to kill small children because they mock you or someone you like?

I wouldn't do it; I believe it's definitely wrong, however, I don't believe we are given all the facts in this case.

    b) Was Elisha wrong or right in calling down the course? Should and would he have done it had he known the outcome? If not, did he do wrong?

I withhold judgment on that because I don't believe we know all the circumstances.

    c) Would it not have been more christian to pray for the children rather than coursing them?

See above answers to a & b questions.

    d) When did God stop listening to courses in his name and act upon them?

    None of us can say.

    e) Am i missing some part of the story that put Elisha and God in a different light?

    Yes, I believe you/we are.

People - with all due respect - are you actually saying that "witches" can call a curse on an enemy and cause their death?

The human mind can easily equate a lot of supernatural cause to just simple circumstance.

Yep these things happen all the time; which is why those that follow Christ have to absolutely be watchful and not fall into cursing. There are real consequences to not exercising forgiveness, not just for the for the person you have a problem with, but for yourself.
