    It is common in nature for the zygote not to attach to the uterine wall and hence not form into a baby, when conditions are not optimal. The day after pill mimics this process to prevent the zygote from attaching to the uterine wall.

    The morning after pill is widely available in most parts of the world now, even over the counter at pharmacies here in Australia. You need to choose the option that best suits you. Like has been mentioned here already, it is not much different to taking the contraception pill, because that too makes it hard for anything to attach to the uterine wall and for sperm to even get that far. I think most morning after pills can even be taken up to 3 days after sex. There are also other pills that can be taken many weeks into a pregnancy. I watched a documentary on it not so long ago.
