Strange YPA article: Should I quit school?

The November 2010 Awake (the atheist issue) has a YPA article that seems strange to me. It is about whether or not a kid should drop out of school. The way that it's written makes it seem that dropping out of school, (not college) is ok under some circumstances. Read the following excerpt:

"What are my motives for dropping out?

Beware of fooling yourself. (Jeremiah 17:9)

It’s a human tendency to give noble reasons

    for selfish actions.—James 1:22.

Write here the honorable reasons you

might have for ending your school career prematurely.

    ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Write here some selfish reasons for quitting.

What honorable reasons did you write

down? A couple of possibilities might be to

help support your family financially or to engage

in volunteer work. Selfish reasons might

be to avoid tests or to escape homework."

I wonder what kind of "volunteer work" might be considered honorable enough to drop out of school.

It's not enough that they discourage college, now they want kids to get as little K-12 education as possible. The whole article is bizarre to me, I'm surprised they would put that article in the public edition of the mag. I wonder what "worldly" people would think reading that article.

This really makes me sick because my 15 year old nephew is at the meeting with my mother right now.

Idk, are they REALLY implicitly saying that it's ok to quit school? I don't think so. Quitting school is really put in a negative light in the article. I think you guys are over reacting on this one.

dont think that takes too much working out as kingdom halls are registered as individual charities, and the dubs are classed as 'volunteers' lol

If they are even slyly suggesting that quitting high school is okay for "volunteer work" then they are starting 1975 all over again.

Bad enough that they discourage college. It's pure ridiculous to encourage people who mostly get a free basic education up to a point to walk away from it.

We all know that the only "volunteer work" that justifies quitting school for a dubbie is volunteering to sell literature for the WT$...

Baltar: It wouldn't surprise me if quitting school was put in a negative light in this article (haven't read it....) since the Awake! is typically geared for the public.

This is typical WT spin-doctoring imo. The statement sounds reasonable to the public, and yet doesn't offend the dubbies because they understand what "volunteer work" means.
