Bethel Tours led a happy Dub party who enjoyed the opera at the Sydney Opera House yesterday (Tuesday).

They saw Mozart's "Marriage of Figaro". Well, why not, it always was the most popular opera for the masses!!!

    Cheers,
    Ozzie

Does anyone know what the legal implications in the US is concerning this? Wouldn't this be considered descrimination? For example, a person who is not an active Witness, but still baptised (not DF'd or DA'd) wouldn't they by law still be considered as a JW? Would inactive ones be allowed on the trips or would they be turned away? Also, by the statement:

[QUOTE]These tours are not sponsored by the Society, but are a private arrangement by Brothers and limited only to Jehovah's Witnesses and their relatives.[/QUOTE

It could be argued that "worldly" people who are related to Witnesses could go. IF this is the case woulnd't it be illegal if the average Joe off the street wanted to go but couldn't?

I don't know what their current policy is but it seems to me when I was there in the early '80's everyone was allowed but since the Br's & Sr's were asked to dress appropriately they pretty much knew right off who was worldly. When I was there they spotted a man that was not dressed according to the rules so changed the guide from a woman to a man. I think they may have added an extra guide but I can't remember.

So, let me get this straight.

You're going on vacation. You're paying these people to get you where you want to go. And they have the AUDACITY to tell you to dress a certain way???? WTF is up with THAT?? Are you actually supposed to dress as though you're going to a convention???

I knew that Bethel started having a certain dress code for visitors (they did not in 1980 when I visited), but to sit on a crowded bus?? If this is how anal-retentive they are NOW..... just imagine what FUN (NOT!) the "New System" is going to be...... [8>]

I met my wife on a Meander tour.

Our tour guide was also Emmanuel Zervides, who owns the company. They do in fact allow non-witness family members, so long as their behaviour "does not conflict with our Christian conscience".

Indeed! She cost me three camels!

Expatbrit, sometimes glad his wife doesn't read the forum.
