That depends on who you are asking.
An Australian Aboriginal will give you a very different answer from a Bhuddist. They both only have the stories of their predecessors to go by.
I say, just use the stories of your own culture, but bear in mind, that they are just stories and there is nothing to be gained by slagging off other people who don't believe likewise.

because he wanted something more than an angel. thats why satan hates us so much. we are viewed as favorites by god over even the angels. only we can love on the same level as god. hence created in his image.

God could care less about us worshiping him. Does a parent want obidence for love of power? Or do they want it because they know thier way will bring success and hapiness to the child. No parent wants to see thier children learn the hard way.
