That is more of their dishonesty, LostGeneration. They say that he and his apostles DID use it hundreds of times. But they have no proof. They can only say "evidently" or "likely". They don't understand the TRUE meaning of the word "name". I've said it before (like many before me), when a cop says "Stop in the name of the law" he does NOT referring to an actual name. Our name is our power or authority. This is shown by the question given to Peter and John in Acts 4:7. When Jesus says he made Gods name known, he was not referring to the tetragrammeton. He was saying that he was showing that true salvation only came through God.This is shown in John 5:43.

Whether you believe in God or not, that is what Jesus was saying. Their interpretation that Jesus made his Fathers name known by telling everyone that his name was Jehovah is simply wrong according to scripture.

Wrong Way, search for "name" in either an electronic bible, or if you MUST a NWT on the WT Library. Jesus was very clear that it was ONLY in HIS name that we could be saved.

The JWs like to claim they are a restoration of the eary church. So to one, i mentioned that the early church did emphasize the divine name. In the NT, the description of the earliest church is in the book of Acts. So, you can see how they emphasized the divine name by looking up all references to the word "name." :) Easy way to find out whose name they emphasized and preached. The person said they knew the truth, and didn't need to do that. -- (Hey i did not see Brother Dan's last post before i wrote this. LOL)

Nice one Aunt Bee. Funny...he didn't want to look it up. They are so afraid of reading something contrary to what they believe...even if it comes from the Bible. They WILL NOT read the bible without the WT goggles.

The issue for me is that JW's have a primitive approach to god, and think they have discovered a REALLY big thing, God has a name!!!!

It is the vestiges of the changeover from polytheism to monotheism; why would God need a name, unless to distinguish him from other gods?

BTW, it was a priest in the 12th century who came up with Jehovah.

The name Jehovah's Witnesses is a BRAND; get rid of the name, no brand identity,

Aside from "Jehovah" being the most important word in Kabbalah, Freemasonry, and Enochian Magick (that doesn't necessarily mean it's evil, it just means anything sacred can be corrupted), here's a question for JW's to ponder:

Since they take every word of the Bible so literally, and it's all going to be fulfilled somehow, then ask them to explain this scripture, bearing in mind that the appearance of "Gog of Magog" is yet a future event....

Ezekiel 39:7 "And my holy name I shall make known in the midst of my people Israel, and I shall no more let my holy name be profaned;"

So, the name is not yet known, and yet its being profaned. How is that???

The Divine name is YOURS. You are hu-man. Man, given life through the breath of the Creator. You are divine by birthright. Don't sell out for a bowl of porridge. Just because you are charmed by a sweet paradise story is no reason to sell your soul and give your life up to an organization that wants you to promote their illusion. Live your life. You were given dominion over it. Others rule you only through your own consent.

Fundamentalist groups are big on LITMUS tests of purity. With JW's, the Divine Name is one of these tests.

My wife was asked to do a talk on this subject and asked me to go over her talk outline. Half way through it I stopped and said, "I can't support this reasoning. Yahweh is more accurate but Jehovah is more common so we choose Jehovah. Since we really don't know the pronunciation of the divine name and since Jehovah is so common, saying it allows us to have a more personal relationship with Him. Etc, etc, etc.."

We went back and forth for a couple of minutes then I just went ahead and helped her with her talk outline. At the end, she asked, "So what did you think?" My response, "Your audience will eat it up so that is all that matters. Curious, I wonder what a Jew would say about your reasoning, calling them superstitious and all?"

    Definition of irony:

Name a brochure about the name of God, The Divine Name That Will Endure Forever...

...and then admit in said brochure that no one really knows how that name is pronounced...

Congrats, Dan...you're relearning your critical thinking skills. I started a couple of threads about this very subject way back when I first realized that Jehovah was erroneous.
