"we certainly want to avoid having publishers expressing personal viewpoints"

Yes, we can't have the public knowing our much bragged about unity is not really quite so unified. Odd too that jw's always will say, "if you really want to know what jw's believe ask a jw! not an ex jw" guess there are too many apostates within the cong's?

I guess uniformity is a more accurate term than unity.

    Translation:

If you want to know what our biblical beliefs are, read our literature.

Quite simply, that is because if they ask 100 different publishers (even MS/Elders) the only uniform answer they would get is:

"I don't know. I'll have to research that."

Fact is, JWs DO NOT know what they "believe". Most have NO IDEA beyond the 3 or 4 central unique doctrines, and most could not even support those by only using the Bible. They only know what they are TOLD to believe or what they are TOLD the Bible says. And even that is hard to keep up with all the changing doctrines.

I developed a simple test to determine if there is a clergy laity dinstinction. Can every member of the organization perform weddings, baptism and other ordinances that are available, or are only a few specially selected ones able to do that. An intelligent survey could have the proper questions to determine that. Reading the literature would not. THAT is why they want to avoid academic research about their little publishing gig.
