Jaguar, I don't know whether to believe it ......or not

But that's the best damn story i have heard in a long time.

    Gracias

Its true, I couldnt make up anything like that.

Before I spent 5 years visiting this board, I thought it was God who saved me, since then I have peeled the onion and examined

the details and have a new understanding of miricles.

    Buenos Dias.

Shit happens, eh? Maybe, but it don't happen in a vaccum, there is rhyme and reason for everything, even shit. Why did Terry's foot slip, why didn't my head get blown off? ....

Thanks elderelite, I'll check for the book.....

Quentin- hypothetical situation here: a series of events occured when i spilled my glass of water today. my dad left a dog toy on the floor right in my path. i tripped, spilling my water all over the floor. i happened to notice an ant drowned in my spilt water. this ant's life was taken. hypothetically, if ants were conscious beings, as are humans, could you imagine this ant's family torturing themselves by asking "why did little cleatus have to die? why?!" was there some higher being who wanted to take this ants life? no, it was simply a mistake on my part for not watching where i was walking (or you could place blame on my dad for not setting the toy aside.lol i like that idea better) "why" seems to me like the wrong question to ask. why does there even have to be a reason why? can't it just be?

"why is the sky blue?" reactions of atoms and light in the atmosphere, etc. "well who decided to make it blue?" this is where these types of questions veer off the path of logic. where is this "who" coming from? i guess its understandable that we're all use to seeing things, like a chair, and just having the common sense that the chair could not be in existance unless some "who" created it. so i guess its easy to apply that line of thought to everything (life-death situations, the universe, etc). it may make sense to apply the "if theres a creature, there must be a creator" type thinking to physical things, but when your dealing with the realm of intangibles, its quite different. you should only go by what you know, as already posted by someone else.

"why" questions just seem ridiculous to me. if you want to start asking why questions, then why not do it for everything? why was my car painted white? who decided to paint my car white? is it b/c white cars are the safest and God wants me to survive and drive safely? or maybe it was just b/c they were all out of all the other colors. most ppl would like to believe the reason why would be b/c "white cars are the safest and God wants me to survive and drive safely." that sounds more comforting, yea i think i like that, thats what im gonn believe. im special and God wants me alive. its a mechanism the human brain has in order to cope with their fear of death. other organisms don't have a fear of death, since they are not conscious beings like us.

The answer is obvious: you are here to tell the tale so you survived. Just as people talk about their relatives who have smoked all their lives and are still o.k.: dead men tell no tales. It's all just chance.

Sometimes the "Higher Self" looks out for us, because it can see what's coming and in subtle ways it will guide us to do something to prevent these disasters. Some may call it their "guardian angel". There are way too many stories like these for there to be nothing to it but co-incidence and random. There is an entire field of study on this called "Synchronicity".

True, Is it God? Don't know, but there is somthing at play and it goes beyond random in the right time place, s___ happens. more laer, daughter;s screeming abiut the light being on.

Why did Terry's foot slip, why didn't my head get blown off?

Your quesion presupposes a reason. Why shouldn't his foot slip or a gun jam? My foot has slipped and gun jammed many times. Is there a reason your examples should be special?

I you suggest it goes beyond random, we will need some math to show it.

I'm with the numbers and psychology camp on this one; nobody cares to recall or even recognize all the "could have beens" that occur evry minute of every day to everyone you know. For the most part. The butterfly cares not for you, lol
