That was my point - as religious organizations go, JWs are certainly not in BMW territory!

Man.... you must really have something against Chrysler then... heh heh
Have you heard a JW speaker talk about the glass of water with ONLY one drop of poison?
They're not humble enough, or grounded enough to acknowledge the irony of your question.
If you are going to invest in a business, you wouldn't just look at the material put out by that business. This should be as true if you are investing in stocks as if you are going to start a similar business.
If you start a business, you want steady suppliers. You don't just look at one supplier and take their word for the quality. You would be better off doing further research: You might find that 50% of the customers are ripped off, or that the products are crap and will make your own business look like sxxx, or that shipments are not timely, or that the prices are way too high. Or, you might find another supplier that's even better--better quality products, lower prices, and/or better service. You can then pass the savings or higher quality or better service onto your own customers by going with an "unapproved" supplier that you found with "unapproved" sources, while your witless brother goes belly up because of crap products at high prices.
And, if you would do that research on a supplier, why not with a religion? I would think it's even more important with a religion, which you are supposed to live or die by, than with a business. Especially when they think of a mere business as being the means to finance your ministry. If the religion is crap, or you are getting ripped off, and they build in the no-looking-elsewhere-for-answers doctrine, you will continue getting ripped off.
Your headline is EXACTLY what my MIL says when I point out the failings of the JWs!
But its not as if they can refute the claims. Many are shown in their own publications and proof is there in their face. But its far easier to claim that the person pointing out the issues is only looking at the critial things as then they don't have to admit they could be wrong or that the WT is wrong!
My wife once said the same and I used to getting all side of the picture and making an informed decision, she got that but it doesn't mean she is going to read both sides of the arguement.
More like a drug company trying to convince people their mind-control drugs are great even though independent tests say they're dangerous along with those who've managed to come off them. Only those hooked will say it's good. I suppose it's true that we're only looking at the shocking side effects and not the placebo effect.
MMXIV
It isn't true of us on here, we have read the MadJW's thread about all the good things the WT has to offer.
I always think it's kind of ironic that the criteria we all use to judge the WBTS, is the criteria taught to us by the WBTS.
The "drop of poison in the glass of water" illustration is kind of biting them in the ass.
The answer to, "You are only looking at things critical of the Watchtower" is, "You are only looking at things supportive of the Watchtower."
Ding, you would think that woulud work, but they just look at you and laugh or call your ridiculous.
