How We Address One Another

Everyone always assumes I am a redneck bigot. Oh well, guess it's the name I chose and some of the recent posts where I am exploring how cults operate outside the JWs. I have alot of fun laughing at other people's assumptions. I try to not take stuff so seriously anymore. None of us are high and mighty JWs who were picked by angels to lead a charmed life after Armegheddon. This is as good as it gets. We are all in this together, and are strangers in a strange world (i.e. cult members trying to survive in a new, non-cult environment that we were taught is supposed to be Satanic) Calling each other "messed up" or wrong is crazy, as we will never operate with a full deck ourselves.

    dearest CoCo,

I assume that if you're posting with someone in mind then it's best to address them, if however it's a point made for general readership then one can't be so personable. I care less about the pleasantries and more about the content not being offensive.

    Yours gratefully

    Good Morning everyone!

Josie: Please keep chewing and let us know how it tastes!

Lee: Understood; it's not possible to read everyone. Often I'm delighted to discover a wonderful post by someone I'd never read before, though they've been here forever.

Quandry: Your kind words made my day. I hope we can "talk" more in the days ahead.

Letsslatejws: I promise never to call you Sister again!

Justitia Themis: So clear and to the point the distinction you've drawn. That helps immensely.

Sylvia: Your comment reminds me of time spent in the Midwest pioneering. We got acquainted - over a series of then-termed backcalls - before talking "the Truth.' Not always, of course, but we had to prove ourselves neighborly.

Mad Sweeney: Yes, the nature of the post. I do see now that some type posts would not "require" using one's handle nor a salutation, almost seeming out of place.

Skeeter: Good point about not taking ourselves so seriously. JWN has helped temper me, particularly insofar as thinking myself a special representative of the Most High - I really dug being a 'theatrical spectacle to men and angels.' O, no - couldn't be me after all. All Scripture applies to the anointed only ...

    Edited to add:

MMXIV: The distinction is clearly seen, as you've so nicely stated. Getting to the point - a challenge for me - is really the best!

    Thanks again!

Oh! One other thing about neighborliness.

I majored in History in college; once, when we were studying late 19th century American history, I learned that people used to share personal information when ordering from catalogs.

There were accounts of customers informing the mail-order businesses that a new baby had been born, the house had caught on fire, a different family had moved to the area, one of the kids had started school/gone away to college, etc.

Of course, those were very different times, but I couldn't help being touched by the friendly way business was done back then.

I always view posts as personal, they are a persons opinion, their beliefs and the person cares enough to share them with us all.

So I tend to address my reply to them or to another that has made a post before mine.

I don't think I ever address my posts to the subject as if it was a "disembodied entity" simply because what makes it interesting isn't that subject per say, but that SOMEONE thinks it important enough to make it.

I have this little habit of copying and pasting the persons name so it is clear to whom I am replying; as I have done with your name.

I have other curious little habits but they are best kept to myself!
