It turns out that my biking accident on July 6th resulted in a broken collar bone. I didn't know this until the VA took x-rays yesterday - it took until then to get an appointment; my request for x-rays was submitted on July 16. Fortunately, I've been mending nicely despite my 300 mile bike ride the last week of July and a 120 mile ride two weeks later. I still haven't had a decent night's sleep since it happened - I'm exhausted.

Wow, it took two months to get a DX on a broken bone? incredible
Did they do any kind of repair, or are they just letting it heal?

There's nothing they can do - it's healing on its own. My pain threshold is pretty high, apparently; I iced it for the first 10 days and took Aleve. I have constant pain, but it's tolerable and not nearly so bad now, although it can be bothersome at night. I had full range of motion and was able to keep somewhat active from the start, which helped keep me flexible.
My VA experience has been very positive, but if you don't have an emergency you just have to wait for them. Three years ago I had to have my gall bladder removed; it was an emergency, but in order to be admitted to the hospital I had to come by ambulance, which cost me $1,600.

Glad to hear you are on the mend. Controlling pain through altering the minds focus is good practice.
Rightly or wrongly, I always think of you and James Thomas as being on a similar wavelength and enjoy your posts.

I broke my collarbone twice in almost the same spot.
First time was a motorcycle accident, second time was a boyfriend....
It hurts like hell and takes forever to heal.
That shoulder aches when it's rainy now. And its a bumpy bone.
Hope you feel better soon!
