I wonder if Dan is such a nice guy, couldn't he have done much more good with his life by pulling a Ray Franz? I mean could the society handle another Ray? I wish he would have looked more closely at the evil within the organization and COME OUT with it.

I'll wager that the first thing the WTBTS GB did after _Crisis of Conscience_ was published was to have the legal department write up loyalty contracts. These contracts would be enforced on any member of the WTBTS to prohibit a repeat of Ray Franz' whistle blowing expose.

Excuse my French but what the hell good would a "loyalty contract" be? I mean with or without a contract, if they leave they lose out on their sustenance, covering, medical care, etc. This would be with or without a contract. Unless there is some other "penalty" that could be enforced. But I can't imagine what it could be.

I imagine men like Dan simply could not leave. So sad. Wish there was a legal precedent that forced the society to pay at least social security.

I don't know if he's on his death bed but I think he may actually be Jehovah in disguise because he has the voice of Jehovah.

    Hi Bluesapphire, et al,

You have a point, of course about Dan's failure to ``take arms against a sea of trouble.'' But, it's likely he blinked as he peered into the chasm that would have wrought an abrupt end to a life of cocoon-like stability and virtual VIP cosseting and approbation anywhere he would show up on the globe, and possibly imperil his marriage to a much-younger beautiful wife whom he adores.

It's also likely, he could have come up with the not-unreasonable rationalized that by staying the course he might well accomplish much by using his influence and postion to steer things in the direction of greater personal freedoms, appeal to consiceince, etc. I say, let's allow the man his humanity; what Ray did took immense courage; for most of us, our simple human frailty often overwhelms us when under trial.

I certainly will demur on any such judgement of someone I know to have been a decent, if somethwat flawed and eccentric human being.
