My grandma called me child of Satan

My grandma is 85 and still a JW (I don't think she's one of the best though). I guess she's been hoping that I would come back but when we met this summer and she realised I'm together with a "worldly" man she understood I'm not planning to come back at all. (btw she shouldn't see me at all in the first place since I've left but she's been "tolerant" abt that). She said I'm now lost and in the claws of Satan. I could hear the recentment on her voice. Even though I want to be respectful towards my grandma I thought that this is enough!!! I said that I can't understand how she can say that to her own grand child (I'm 36 so she should have respect for me too) and that I think she's brain washed.!! I guess this may be the end of our relationsship. JWs just think they can say anything!!!

My sister is still a JW but they have no contact.? I said that if you are so sad about me why not seek comfort and closer relation with my sister? She'd no answer to that...

Nothing make sence and they don't see it!!!

Hi Newborn, Tell me about it. They view us as something evil now, scum, demonic or stupid for leaving the WT Book Company. They are blind, pure brainwashed, if your grandmother has been in this cult long enough it will be almost impossible for her to see the 'Truth' about the JW version of the 'truth'. Brainwashed to the max!

I too am having problems with an older relative, trying to stay respectful as well but it's so hard when they come up with such stupid comments. I bite my tongue now and avoid the subject as much as I can. My older relative will NEVER see the truth. "Those men in NY are the FDS and I've left them and will soon die at Armageddon" ... yeah right, give me a break!

Keep strong and enjoy your life Newborn :)

Sorry about your grandma, Newborn. It's especially tough when our relatives act that way. Good for you for standing up for yourself, though. Strength to you!

Sorry to hear that, Newborn. That's an example of how religin molged her mind. IMO, she's too old to make changes.

I have extreme opposite case. One of my grandma's was never a witness. She didn't like my mam (she was my father's mam) to such an extent that when I was born she didn't come to visit me until I was about one year old. And as I understand it now she did it only because she didn't want to look bad in the eyes of other people (relatives). Even now when she calls to my father (usually to ask for money or for stuff like that) she never asks how her grand children are doing. As a result I have no feelings for her, she is just like a stranger for me.

On the contrary, my another grandma (mother's mam) was a loving, caring woman, who would give her life for her children and grandchildren, she also loved my father and us so much. She also was never a witness, though believed in god. Unfortunetely she has passed away 9 years ago. Some of the sweetest memories of my childhood are associated with her. I miss her so much.

Newborn when you say brain washed that's true, I get crap from my parents but they just don't understand, they think they do but they don't, reality is tuff but I wouldn't give up on them, remember that they don't know any better even if they think they do. Saying that, maybe the worst thing you could do is get even.

Maybe if you ask your family for help regarding bible topics(not to confront them), hearing them, then showing your point as to why you are having difficulties reconciling, you will have a higher rate of opening their eyes.

Don't take it too personal Newborn. Being a JW causes people to say dumb and hurtful things. At 85 she isn't likely to see the light and leave it.

Ah Sylvia's a better person than me. I would have said "I was just thinking the same thing about you Grandma!"

Not very nice but maybe she'd understand what a rotten thing that was to say to you.
