"You can't just tell someone their faith is wrong without offering a replacement!"

Babies have pacifiers - adults have religion. Ultimately I find religion and faith a crutch. The realities of our mortality cause people to run to the comfort of needing to believe that a divine power is looking after them. And that this life isn't all there is....you will be rewarded with a second life.

When you threaten one's current belief system that has comforted them, they would require a replacement.

If you feel compelled to help a slave remove their shackles, are you obligated to find them a new master?

I've heard this and I have the perfect response. "Why not?".

Ask them why they are trying to change the subject.

99% of the time, when you walk away from a JW feeling like you lost.....

.... It is because they changed the subject to something they feel more comfortable with.

    Restate your question.

Act offended that they are trying to divert you from your subject.

If the tactic they are using is something they have accused another religionist of..... remind them. Every time they try to use a double standard ... point it out and act offended that they should stoop to such depths discussing their beliefs with you, their precious son/daughter/sibling/grandparent/whatever...... then restate your question.

Remind them..... It is your question that is important. If they ever want to have any chance of saving you from their killer god, who they say is going to kill you in the very near future, they have to have a legitimate answer to your question ....

All religion is false on the surface, but true on a deeper level. Every one of the major religions teaches, esoterically, that the way to God is WITHIN. THAT is the only true alternative to offer someone after you expose their religion as false. There is no God to be found outside of yourself, because once again, we are all connected. Separateness is an illusion.

When I was lurking this forum, I remember reading some posts by Renaia. One of the complaints she had was that Ray Franz didn't start a new religion or church after he left. She thought that by him not doing that he was flawed for some reason. The more I think about it, I don't see a valid argument why you have to belong to a church, or in Franz case why he needed to build a church of followers. There's nothing scriptually that indicates belonging to a church is mandatory as a Christian. I can see Paul's reasoning to the Hebrews that they should meet together and encourage one another especially considering the times that they lived in. I can see that reasoning being valid today, however to belong to some church or organization shouldn't be a must-do. There's no scriptural support for this.

I agree, misery. Being here on this board is just as much a "gathering together" as anything the early Christians did. And it is FAR more upbuilding and profitable than what the active JWs do.

If my car gets written off, I get lent a new car free of charge, until a replacement is found.

Perhaps a religion insurance policy should be available. Temporary religions on loan to fill the gap.
