    Hi Everyone,

    Happy Easter!

My husband and I who are former JWs are starting a new bible discussion group on Sundays @1pm, south of Boston. We will begin the group on Sunday May 3rd. The purpose of the group is for bible study and fellowship. We are NOT going to use group to tear down JW beliefs or discuss the Watchtower Organization.

We are seeking JWs who have left the org. but are still Christians to attend our group. The group agenda will be to listen to a talk on a different topic each week, given by plain truth ministries, www.ptm.org, for first half hour. Followed by half hour discussion and sharing scriptures. Coffee, tea and refreshments will be provided from 2 to 3 pm. If you are an ex JW who still believes in God and Christ, and want to grow in your faith and fellowship with like-minded believers, please send me a private email.

For those who are wondering who I am, I used to post on this forum by the name lovelylil. I've been away for a while trying to focus on other things besides the JWs.

Again, if you are truly interested in attending this group, please message me a contact email or phone number. I'd love to learn your story and have fellowship with you. We will be contacting interested persons by end of this month. Space is limited at this time to 8 attendees. Thanks and Lord Bless.

I live on the opposite coast anyway, but have to say I admire you for still being interested in the Bible and in God.

JW's ruined that whole topic for me. After growing up as a JW and all the resulting drama, I am sick to death of agonizing over what the Bible does or doesn't say....what God does or doesn't want and what religious minded people think. Maybe someday I'll come around to it because it would be nice to make some sense of it, it such a thing is possible.

What you're doing almost sounds like what JW's started out as.... people simply studying the Bible together. The problems started when they decided that they were "right" enough to start bossing people around with their beliefs.

Just don't create a hierarchy in your group and ask for donations, otherwise you'll be no different from virtually every other sect in Christendom!

Enjoy your fellowship and freedom of thought & speech!

While I do not consider myself a believer...... a parting gift from the WTBTS, I do look up a lot of things on the internet and am not turned off by a good bible debate so I was amazed at how interesting and illuminating this site was http://followtherabbi.com/guide/detail/rabbi-and-talmidim and how Galilee was a hotbed of Jewish reglious study.

It was written by a Christian and explains the Rabbinical era that Jesus grew up in. Before I realized it I was halfway through. It clarified what Jesus meant and why on occasion he raised the ire of more conventional religious teachers. It may be of interest for your group.

I'm with Pete. I was fooled once and it lasted 50 years. I no longer believe in anything that requires to have faith, including God and an afterlife. JWs, Christians and all other "bible-based" religions claim to follow the bible but they cannot agree on how to understand and apply what they read. In my new reality if you are given the same music sheet, you should all play the same tune...I no longer want to debate how each note should sound or how long it should last...bible debates never end.

Thank you all for the comments and good advice!

Since leaving the Organization I have done a complete turn around regarding my belief system. I no longer believe the Bible is the Infallible Word of God. Lets face it, the Bible was written by men who were "inspired" of God. But were they infallible? NO. Did the Bible drop down from heaven as a complete book? Of course not! The NT Bible is simple a collection of letters written to the early churches, as well as the early Acts of the Apostles. Can we learn about Christ from these writings? Yes we can. But we have to put them in perspective that they were written for a specific audience at a specific time.

I've come to learn that Jesus Christ IS the "Word of God". Not the book we call the Bible. This put my faith in a completely different direction.

Also I no longer believe I must attend a Church, rather that I am part of THE Church. The BODY of believers in Christ. Yes you can still be THE Church and go to A Church Building, however I do not believe it is required. When the Bible says "do not forsake the gathering of yourselves together", it simply means gather with fellow believers. This gathering does not necessarily have to be to read the bible (it did not exist when this text was written) but could be simply for fellowship.

This group is totally informal All views WILL be respected. Donations are not required. The group discussions can be decided upon by the entire group.

The problem with religion is that Yes it has grown into big business. Invented by man to dominate others. The Church became an institution rather than the simple idea of "the body of believers". This is because man is interested in making a name for himself and not elevating Christ above all. Since I am aware this can happen, our group is limited to a small group of believers.

Keep the agenda to yourself would be my advice. Read the books of the bible in a complete way as opposed to using specific scriptures to convey a particular point would be paramount to having a legit bible study in my 100% unsolicited opinion.
