Thanks, cyberjesus! Great video! I relate. It took me about 3 years to get through to the integration stage and I feel like I am still there. I am not an atheist but I relate very much to his steps.

Well from one extremissim to another in 5 months, that smacks of an extreme personality disorder.

- Where are we getting the idea that TheraminTrees was a JW? I'm not saying he wasn't but I've never seen or heard it stated on his channel and if anything I get the impression he was raised in some other Christian religion (comments regarding hell and also the church/priest shown in the Instruction Manual for Life video). I'd be interested in knowing exactly which religion he subscribed to.
- Either way, how is that going from one "extremissim" to another? It's a deconversion. To me it smacks of intelligence and critical thinking.
- How long should it take a normal person to recognize their faith is misplaced and supplant it with logic and reason?

I have seen things (demons) that Atheism can't explain, that my reason.
Atheism doesn't try to explain anything. It's a lack of belief in god(s), a neutral perspective. (EDIT: CJ already covered this I see.)
It's interesting to see you can explain the unexplained. That's a helluva paradox.

Someone is still judgemental here :-)
Thanks for your diagnosis though you saved me a trip to the psychiatrist... oh yeah I was talking about me on the heading :-)

Oh i was talking about me, not him, my reference to the video was just a summary of my journey, not his. Sorry if I wasnt clear enough.

you got it!
Belief in the GOOD (GOD)-----------------Not belief-----------------------Belief in the EVIL (Satan)
Thats extremism. Going to the middle , with no belief at all is not.

SBC,
If a person was part of an extremist religion, which tend to be a very controlling as par of the course, and according to the title of the thread "HARD CORE JW", then one can assume that he was a "bible thumper" per excelleance with the 100% conviction that he was right and everyone else that had a different view was wrongd, yes?
Well in 5 months he does a 180 BUT keeps the same view of "he is right and everyone else with an opposing view is wrong".
I submit that the ISSUES that made him a "hard core JW" and have now made him a "hard core atheist" are the REAL problems and that being a JW or an atheist is just symptomatic of those problems, those problems being an extremist and possible addictive personality.

Jeez, you're right, that was VERY judgemental, Sorry.
I shouldn't have put it that way and I though you were referring to the video.
Still, If you look at the post above I think I make my view a bit better but perhaps still far too judgmental and I apologise again.

This is interesting. It almost seems like perspectives that lie at the farthest point from what we personally believe... are "extreme" to us. We all think our own views are balanced... right down the middle probably. Otherwise we would believe something else.
To be honest, 5 years ago I would've considered atheism to be an extreme, too. Now, while I'm not a true atheist (I toy with deism), I do consider it to be closer to neutral when I consider that we are not born with faith in Jesus or Allah. Also, if you're politically neutral as a JW, you don't align yourself with any particular political party. Since an atheist doesn't align himself with any particular god, he seems to be neutral in that respect, IMO.

PS: No problem. I battle with that too. Everytime I speak I wonder If I am passing judgement as well. I think that is the hardest thing for me to get rid from the JW cult.

Ok now this statements has assumptions.
1.- Where does it say hard core atheist?.
2.- You mention ISSUES and PROBLEMS. Have you even watched the video? It explains very clearly what lead to what. in a very simple manner. No problems. Just stages.
3.- The process of going from believing in something to not believing is not an symptomatic of an addictive personality. It is much more deeper than that. Not believing could involve losing trust, learning new facts or discovering that facts known before are not true, etc etc
SBC: I like that analogy. If I am republican and suddenly decide not to have any party at all. That doesnt make me an extremist. It just makes smart ;=)
