PBR is cheaper... now that's stretching a dollar.

"Girlfriend, come on over here and let us lavish you with love and praise! ..."
Dang!! Now, how can I resist an invite like that?? I'll be right over; thanks for inviting me!!
(I really thought my prickly style would prevent anyone wanting to approach me... )

Ebeneezer Scrooge was very tight with a dollar, but I think in his case it was presented as a mortal sin...
I'm not advocating being a Scrooge.
Just knowing when, where, what, why, and how to spend.

Snowbird, I have a daughter just like that, funny thing is the other one used to be a thrifty nickel..until she married. Now she couldn't care less about spending her hubby's money..
The one that was always borrowing money from me for "some emergency" I found out liked to gamble on the riverboats also..
I finally cut her off when I found out she was using the money she was borrowing from me to gamble and was using it for her and her boyfriend to go out with and party instead of paying on her bills. I finally got to the point where I paid the bills instead of giving her the money but then she just used her money for what she wanted then came crying to me to bail her out with her bills. Now we rarely speak..when we do it usually isn't pleasant.
I was real proud of her because she is moving from a townhouse to a regular house and couldn't believe she pulled the money together for a security deposit..then she let me know that her and my grandson won't have any water until she gets her child support check in a week..she starts giving me this sad song about how her and my grandson will have to go potty over the basement drain till they can get it hooked up. That means she was behind on her water again and they won't reconnect it until she pays the balance in full..(I paid $300. to have it turned back on a few years ago.)So she isn't paying her bills again. Did I mention she went bankrupt 2 months ago. I paid her car off for her a few years ago so she had no car payment but found out she could get title loans and then I had to pay off a few of them..the list goes on.
I love both her and my grandson (he is 12) but..
I didn't budge, I didn't offer any help so she decided she no longer wanted to talk to me (again).Last time she didn't talk to me for a year..said I was too negative.. it's pretty heartbreaking. I have offered to help her with a budget but she would rather spend now and worry about it later.
Funny thing is people on here complain about their witness kids..you can even have problems (be shunned) when they aren't witnesses..

I just wanted to add that I saw where they are trying to make it mandatory to teach grade school kids how to buget..I think they should drill it in their heads all through school..I can also see mistakes I made with my kids in teaching them to budget and my kids are making the same mistake with their kids..all parents should teach kids how to budget money in the same way they teach them to walk and talk! It's about survival..

There is a legend about Oriental (Asian) women that holds that they tightly maintain the family budget. The husbands are expected to largely make all the money, but they have to immediately turn it over the the real head of household - the wife. Husbands are given an allowance.
I have an Asian woman, and she says that I can only have one six-pack of German beer every month now that she has seen the repair bill for the Rolls Royce hydraulic system this week.
I also have a Beer Fairey, for this very reason.
