    Hi snakeface!! Welcome.

When I was a MS, someone who was "just studying" apparently wanted to get me in trouble and told the elders that I told him I often participate in "apostate websites" (which was not true)...

    It is now...

    Welcome...

    Thank you for the welcomes.

Yeah apparently this guy was on the websites, and maybe the person studying with him found out. I do know that this individual was hanging out with DF'd and DA'd people which would be how he knew about the sites - but that was none of my business so I certainly never confronted him about it or told anyone else.

That conversation with the elders was weird. What they were saying, was, "We already are certain this is not true, and we don't trust the person who told us, and even if he is telling the truth we cannot do anything about it, but we want to ask you anyway."

Sometimes I wonder how honest brothers and sisters generally are to the elders. If you will act in your best interests, you will lie when you need to.

bottleofwater you're right about that. Especially if they ask probing questions. For example, many years ago the PO asked me out of the blue, "Is there anything unscriptural going on at your house?" to which I replied, "No there isn't." I found it odd that he didn't ask something more specific. Nothing was "going on" anyway, but if he was trying to investigate you would think he'd be more specific. For example "Are you having a problem with [specific matter, perhaps pornography, heavy drinking, whatever]?"

I believe Simon himself was confronted about this site in a JC.

A few years ago, Simon wrote: It was clear that this was *the* biggest factor in the whole affair. They wanted to know if I'd be willing to take it down and hinted that this whole affair could probably be forgotten about if I did. They wanted to know how many people visited the site. I leaned forward in my chair and said "about 16,000 a week" (it's gone up a bit since then!) and then added "that's more than you get at a district convention once a year isn't it?". I really like that 'seething elder look'.

I know i am getting old...and forget things from time to time, but can someone point me to the scripture (s) that can be used to DF you for this?

    • I will look in the Cd also. But being in my early 50's and raised in the religion I have real issues with anyone telling me what I can or can not read.
    • I am also aware of how i would react if confronted because of doing so. Back off and myob!!! I mean really who the @#@@ do they think they are?
    • Is it the young and older ones (older then me) that they push around? How is it that 'we' let then have this power over us? I am positive that I would take this on...'one on one' with anyone who tried to jam it to me. At this point in my life I will not be a door mat.
    • And if I witness this being done today as I have in the past I will STAND up againts those ones again!!!

When I first seen things like this being done to the friends my eyes were opened up to hypocrisy in the org. That's when I knew something was really wrong.

When I was fairly new there was this elderly sister - late 80's - who had been to Gilead, pioneering, done it all. She was still very sharp at the time and always out in service. She always had all the answers; no one could ever argue with her.

One day I was working with her in field service and we saw on the ground what appeared to be a tract. We picked it up so it wouldn't be left there like litter. After we worked a door I looked at the tract and realized it was not from the Society even though it looked very similar to the Society's literature. Yet it wasn't from "Christendom" either. We concluded it was from "the apostates" so I wanted to crumple it up. But the sister said, "No, let me have it. I want to see what they have to say." So I gave it to her.

What I learned from that was that this sister whom I respected and looked up to was open minded. She was not afraid to read it just to see what it said, whereas I was afraid to because I might immediately become posessed by demons or something. After that, I never came across such literature but if I had I would have done as this sister did, discreetly put it in my pocket to read later. Then, after reading it, if I disagreed with it I could dispose of it. After all, I wanted the householders to read "my" literature with an open mind.
