Favorite Bethel VOICES

I grew up with certain voices (not faces) that were almost like celebrities to me. Maybe this is only a "born-in" thing. But there are a lot of them that will forever be stuck in my head. Some I don't know the names of...but if you know them, please tell!!!!

I will never forget Ulysees Glass's narration on the 3 Moses dramas. I can still get chills from hearing the first one where he says, "Jehovah...the name of Almighty God." He was a kind man and was a very intelligent Bible teacher. However, he let his emotions get caught up in the fantasy of this organization.

I also loved the voice on the Bible Stories. He was the same voice that was "Hotep" on the Moses dramas. Good stuff.

Like I've said before, Dan Sydlik was the best! POWERFUL voice and had a personality COMPLETELY unlike his voice. He loved people. He had problems with the organization, but his love for the people kept him in.

I'm gonna get a lot of flack for this one, but Ted Jacarz (?sp) had a great voice. It was firm, authoritative...and yet...he hurt so many people.

Last, but not least, Joel Adams. He is the voice of Jambrees in the Moses dramas, and the voice of Satan in some others. He ALWAYS plays the bad guy. He would do morning worship in bethel occasionally and it would be so odd to hear him talk about "loving Jehovah". His voice was so evil!!!

    Anyone else have favorites?

    U. Glass was definitely one of my favorite voices followed by Dan Sydlik.

Remember Dan's usual morning worship intro? "How good it is to be alive and serve the true and living God!!" LOL

And a hilarious voice at Patterson was Brother O'boyle's voice. I don't remember his first name. But if you can picture the Sean Connery voice during a prayer or a talk, then you know who I'm talking about.

And Doug Chapel has an interesting voice. You usually will hear it narrating the main articles of a magazine, generally the Watchtower - Public Edition.

When I was a Bethelite, I was assigned to eat at the table where the Governing Body members conducted the morning worship just before breakfast. My first morning at Bethel, I sat at my assigned seat not knowing just where I was sitting and just who the people around me were. Suddenly the guy at the end of the table set a microphone in front of himself and a video camera and lights were swung around to face him. With a distinctive booming voice he said "Good "Morning everyone". It was the voice of Jehovah that I had heard all my life in the dramas... AKA Daniel Sydlik. I couldn't believe it !

Later that same day as new Bethelites are required to do for the first week, I was helping a sister clean rooms and I was really hustling trying to be a good worker. Finally she told me to take a break. I was sitting at the end of a bed in someoes room with the door wide open. Out in the hallway an elderly man walked by and stopped in the doorway and looked dissaprovingly at me just sitting there. He said in his heavily accented stern old man voice "Rest is for the unrighteous...therefore I have no time for it" an then he just walked away. It was the voice of Moses...AKA brother Friend. I thought 'Oh Crap" I got caught by Moses, sitting around on my first day at Bethel. I wanted to run out in the hall and explain that I was told to take a break. Before I could do that, he poked his head back into the room and smiled at me and winked. I was pretty relieved to know he wasn't serious.

Many of the GB seemed very kindly but others seemed to me, an innocent 18 year old Witness, to be on another plane, which gave them an added bit of mystery and credibility.

In the old days they had an old quavery Jewish sounding brother who twitterd on as though he was about to breathe his last, but no, there he was again next year ,his voice maybe a bit more shakey, eventually he was heard no more, so I suppose he did breath his last drawn out Jehooooooovaaaaaaaaah !

His was usually the most cheesy of the parts.

That was one thing about bethel. You would hear someone talk and realize that you grew up listening to their voice.

I think it was a "grown-in" thing, BD. There were voices that we'd always recognise in the dramas. Particularly since the voices in the dramas were distinctly American, whereas we were in Australia.

It's been more than 10 yrs since I last heard a drama.

One time I was forced to go to the assembly in Yuba City, CA after a looooonnnngggg car ride and once the assembly started. The guy that introduces the speaker had the greatest, soothing voice. Almost like Barry White or listening to the announcer on KKSF radio. It was deep and sloooowww. Sad to say, but I couldn't wait for the speaker to stop speaking so I could here this guys voice again. Sadly after lunch break he was "replaced." Some of the people attending were complaining about his voice being "Too sexual..it's too intense." I think that's why he was removed. After the stupid people's comments...I told my mom I was sick and waited out in the car the rest of the program.
