you may think I'm jokin' but whenever I hurt my hand or stump my toe
the only thing that helps the pain is a good cuss word. I tried not to cuss
one time after I got my finger caught in the door and it took so long to stop

I agree. In fact I was auditing a class on linguistics and the prof was saying that some studies show there is an emotional impact that we get from certain sounds letters and letter combinations such as:
f, t, p, d, ck, and sh
all when said forcefully can almost explode from the mouth release the emotional response. I thought it was an interesting study. Interesting that in english most of our swear words contain at least on or more of those letters ot letter combinations.

Good idea, I'm gonna try substituting "chuck" for the f-bomb. My kids should get a kick out that.
