These are the instructions currently given to brothers who have parts on assemblies or special days. Note that beards are still officially a no-no.
PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW CAREFULLY THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION: The material is to be
presented extemporaneously. Do not convert the reference material or outline into a manuscript and it is not necessary to develop all the points – only those appropriate for your assignment (please read be pp.50, 174-8). Interviews should be presented in a conversational manner, with all comments directed to the interviewer. Do not ask the one being interviewed to offer advice, suggestions or counsel to the audience. Avoid long monologues by posing a number of direct questions throughout the conversation, eliciting brief statements that highlight the value and purpose of the publisher’s experience. Importantly any personnel selected MUST be able to attend the rehearsal. Also please highlight the assembly theme during your talk.
Participants – Unless indicated you are responsible for selecting them. If any suggested participants are unable to accept the assignment please feel free to select your own participant keeping in mind the following: It has been observed the same publishers being used so please search out new ones by contacting co-ordinators. Generally, only baptised publishers should be used, ones who are exemplary. Assemblies are not used to encourage weak publishers. Those used should be good examples in field service and Christian living. Do not use individuals whose past disfellowshiping, reproof or questionable conduct could raise questions in the minds of some in the audience.
Dress and Grooming – Those giving talks should wear suits. If your talk calls for an interview or a demonstration, please do not use any brother who wears a beard and make sure your participants are aware of the importance of good grooming and modest dress. Please advise each sister that we do not wish to see splits or short skirts on the platform. A lack of consideration in this matter could disturb some in the audience and detract from the programme. Advise all to attend rehearsals in the attire they will wear on the assembly day.
To take part on an assembly programme is a great privilege that few brothers enjoy. May Jehovah bless you as you give prayerful thought to its presentation to his praise and benefit of his people.
