Interesting. The approach in my course was different. It started from the beginning with actual (nono-synthetic) extended texts so we got used from the beginning with Greek syntax, whereas morphology was taught more incrementally (usually in order of the actual frequency of grammatical forms, with more exceptional and rarer forms and paradigms taught later), with the help of an interlinear that is gradually removed as one's knowledge of grammar progresses.
