  Being Chosen by Jehovah never made imperfect men perfect or without mistakes. Which they continued to do despite being chosen.

  Jehovah has always allowed humans a certain autonomy with regards to freewill and occasionally we go to far and make mistakes. The bible is there to straighten out these mistakes that will happen.

  2 Timothy 3:16
  All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

  If God could just reach and zap us into getting everything right we would not need the bible.

  My reply: Reniaa, why did Jesus select the WT as his steward to handle his earthly affairs when they were still practicing the identical things that got them sent away into Babylonish captivity in 1918? Why did he free them, let alone promote them?

  I was just thinking of that Jack Nicholson scene, cherrios. Not the whole thing, mind you, but the exclamation "You can't handle the truth!". The context was musing over beliefs and belief systems many of the people on this board have expressed. We all perceive reality in different ways - said another way how we perceive reality becomes our reality and to some extent we are completely incapable of conceptualizing someone else's reality. Some, if not many, of the people in here believe as true what their parents taught them to believe, which for the most part was useful because it taught them how to survive. But they know their parents cannot have been infallible, and certainly not the likes of organisations like the Roman Catholic Church and the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. They also understand the irony of coincidence - had they been born in Kabul what they'd believe as absolutely true would be what they currently believe as absolutely false - but they struggle to internalize that understanding, if they try at all. If you stick to the hard evidence that is inexorably accumulating with each passing day, discounting the circular arguments of holy books whose authorities are only themselves, the truth of the universe in which we exist is beyond what many people can handle. The almost absolute statistical and theoretical probability that there is no god is incomprehensible and dismissed out of hand.

  The answer to the question posed at the beginning of this thread, from my perspective, is a simple one. He didn't, because He doesn't exist. The Bible Students made it all up, and that's the truth.

  Why are we given the bible?

  We will be judge by who actually use it accurately rather than their own unbiblical doctrine.

  Why do these arguments always try and make a case for God having a magical wand and going abracadabra on someone rather than showing that we are given the bible to use and the People using it will be noticiable in the time of the end?

  Witnesses use all the Bible it makes us use God's name Jehovah, it makes us preach about his kingdom and actual son Jesus, it makes our shepherds work for us as per bible instruction, it makes us gather together in congregations, it makes us recognise what Jehovah likes and dislikes, it makes us reject the celebrations and culture of the world around us. It makes us pray to Jehovah asking him rather than anyone else. It gives us the answers we need.

  I think this argument is simply abdicating our responsibility to Jehovah as his people and to his word.

  A man named Charles Taze Russell, known as Pastor Russell, was born in 1852 in Pittsburg, America. He was a sincere man with a keen desire to understand the Bible. In 1879 he began to gather others with the same interest and by 1881 he had formed the original Watchtower Society. This group became known as “The International Bible Students.” It would be many years before they adopted the name “Jehovah's Witnesses.”

  This small group who were sometimes referred to as Russellites, started to make predictions regarding the end of the world system. A book entitled “The Time is at Hand” followed in 1891. The title of this book emphasised the weakness that was to become a flaw in the Watchtower Society as the years passed – their obsession with time.

  This book declared that Jesus Christ had already begun his presence since 1873 and would return to gather his chosen ones to heaven in 1914. Pastor Russell, along with his followers, expected to be taken to heaven to become part of Christ’s heavenly priesthood and government in 1914. The battle of Armageddon was to follow and bring an end to all religious and political set-ups. This date was arrived at by various calculations and guesswork, designed to prove that the Gentile Times would end in 1914. The Gentile Times being the time period that the non-Jewish nations would dominate the earth for. The following quotes are taken from the above book, series II:

  “True it is expecting great things to claim, as we do, that within the coming twenty-six years all present governments will be over thrown and dissolved; but we are living in a special and peculiar time, the “Day of Jehovah,” in which matters culminate quickly; and it is written, “A short work will the Lord make upon the earth.””

  “In view of the strong bible evidence concerning the times of the Gentiles, we consider it an established truth that the final end of the Kingdoms of this world and the full establishment of the Kingdom of God will be accomplished near the end of A.D. 1915. Then the prayer of the church, ever since her Lord took his departure – “Thy Kingdom Come” – will be answered; and under that wise and just administration, the whole earth will be filled with the glory of the Lord – with knowledge and righteousness, and peace (Psalms 72:19; Isaiah 6:3; Habakkuk 2:14) and then the will of God shall be done “on earth as it is in Heaven.”” (Pages 98, 99)

  “Be not surprised, then when in subsequent chapters we present proofs that the setting up of God’s Kingdom is already begun, that it is pointed out in prophecy as due to begin the “battle of the great day of God Almighty” (Revelation 16:14) which will end in A.D. 1915, with the complete overthrow of earth’s present rulership, is already commenced. The gathering of the armies is plainly visible from the standpoint of God’s word.” (Page 101)

  My reply: You just refuted your own point there Reniaa, assuming Jesus arrived in 1914 to begin inspection. By teh WTS own admission, they were sent away into Babylonish captivity due to wrong practices. Yet they were still practicing these identical wrong practices in 1919- when they claim they were freed and appointed.Why are we given the bible?

  Witnesses ADD TO the Bible it makes us use God's name Jehovah, THEY ARE FORCED us preach THE WT FALSE PROPHECIES, it makes our shepherds work for THE INTERESTS OF THE ORG, it makes us gather together in congregations, it makes us FEARFUL OF WHAT THE GB likes and dislikes, it makes us reject the celebrations and culture of the world around us SO AS TO MAKE JWS NOT FIT IN WITH THE OUTSIDE WORLD OR HAVE ANY OUTSIDE SUPPORT SYSTEM. It makes us pray to Jehovah BUT NEVER KNOW WHO HE IS. It gives us the answers JWS ARE ALLOWED O KNOW.
