Is it ethical for the GB to call the preaching work "life-saving"?

I think it can be concluded that the Jehoavh's Witness preaching work is NOT life saving. There are a variety of reasons for this, but I think one of the main reasons is that the preaching work cannot be completed, too many people are born every day to preach to. And countries like China, India and most of the Middle East are not going to bend at all.

That being said, how can they refer to it as "life-saving"?

If God draws people to the Org why not just direct them to Watchtower.org? Or even just a Kingdom Hall. Why is so much weight put on the preaching work?

I know we all know the real answer. It is because the preaching work is the Witnesses sales arrangement. It's not life saving, it serves as the sole means of the Organization's growth. It is a life saving work for the Organization, but by no means is it required for the lives of the people in the territories. Many religious organizations have vastly more members than the Witnesses without a door to door preaching work.

I often think about this. I wonder about the ethics of calling it "life-saving".

Calling it that puts a heavy burden of responsibility on the Witness members because of their doctrine of blood guilt. If something is "life-saving" and someone doesn't give their all in it, they are killing people. It's that simple.

Is it ethical for the Governing Body to place this burden on their members? Do they have enough evidence to refer to it as a "life-saving" work?

I've ranted before on it before, but if they truly thought they had a "life saving message" they would put their money where there mouth is and use modern technology to get their message out. How about a TV station, a radio station, internet ads, spamming peoples email around the world with their website address.

But instead they run the rank and file door to door in ridiculous, ineffective busywork.

The real truth is that they do not scream their "life saving message" from the mountaintops because they know people would just think they are even bigger kooks.

I have debated this with a Witness before. She was adamant that door to door is the most effective way to preach, she wouldn't budge on it.

No of course not ethical....we all know it is a complete lie. That's what pisses me off about religion, they make outrageous claims that delude people and what do they get in return? Tax exemption.

THink of the 1920s (?) campaign "Millions Now Living Will Never Die". What happened to those millions who took them up on that offer? Yep, they're dead. What does the Watchtower get in return? Tax exemption! Nothing but evil.

Good points. Wanted to mention though that information in the scriptures have corrected enough wayward people that you could say to a degree its life-saving. Not live-saving as the WT views it, but its helped some people. You're right though for the most part, it is the biggest waste of time. It is a burden. One of the latest books, I can't think of the name of it, the one with the group photo of the GB, maybe one of you can help me with the name. It has a picture of two brothers in field service, and the one is looking at his watch with an expression on his face like, "It's 11:49, I'm so outta here!!" The brother with him is at the door and has a look on his face like, "don't you realize how important this work is?!?!?" The far majority of JWs fit the description of the brother looking at his watch. Its an excellant picture by the way.

Whoever said the WTS was viably ethical in their operations, its a publishing corporation of exploitation by

use of coercive fear and manipulation.

Life-saving hardly , life ruining very plausible.

Hah, that's pretty funny, you used "governing body" and "ethical" in the same sentence!

Oh wait, is that a serious question?

Since when did the GB ever care about ethics?

Calling the preaching work "life saving" is pretty far down the list of their ethical lapses.

Should be called the "life savings work"...because members spend theirs on the WTS.
