I agree that probably part of the motivation is to shift the cost of healthcare from the Society to the Canadian Taxpayer - who seems to have absolutely no problem with such a wonderfully progressive arrangement. "Sure, put MORE parasitic monkeys on my back!"
I think another motivation has to do with limiting the liability the WTB&TS has for "retirement benefits" due to long-time "volunteers" -- isn't there a legal action underway involving Bethel and a long-time "volunteer" who wants disability benefits? If this action succeeds, it sets a precedent for the WTB&TS that they will not enjoy.
These changes are facilitated by technology, which allows the pinheads in Patterson or wherever to continue to spew their bilge and *blip* it electronically to a press in The Great White North. Does Canada have enough membership to support the manpower needs of the printing facilities? You can be sure that only Canadian citizens will be called to serve in the pressroom of the "holy of holies."

So, the Canadians are so nice, that they don't mind paying (taxes) into the "Health Care" pot for their future health care needs, and even pay extra taxes for people, who never paid because of being JW full-time volunteers, can also dip into the 'pot?"

Gayle Everyone who is Canadian (and resides here) has healthcare - regardless of anything. We pay premiums that vary from province to province depending on your income levels. Some provinces have better benifts then others. Some employers will pay your premiums for you, as well as additional benifits like prescriptions etc...
I have have a feeling that while yes to the Org it is all about $, and the move benifits them financialy..... but oh how it excits the rank and file!!!! Oh the talks of how we are moving the printing to Canada, because of the US government cracking down after 911, and look how close we are getting they are moving the printing .......the society is busy getting things ready to keep up the info thru the great tribulation.... oh so silly and oh so sad! A change up like this gets everyone talking about getting their house in order, Gods direction....yadda yadda

Why move magazine printing from the U.S. to Canada?
They get to leech off Free Canadian Healthcare for their Bethel drones. The Canadian taxpayer will now subsidize Watchtower operations.

A few years back there was quite a rancor about the Bethel Chiropractor who was injured and made a claim for Workers comp. California and other states started requiring Volunteers get workers comp based on the Minimum wage. It was being litigated in NYC.
Does anyone have any idea about if workers comp is required in Canada or does the public healthcare include on the job injuries?

But Workers’ Compensation Law Judge Stephen Goldstein ruled Wednesday that Upton is entitled to $400 a week in workers’ compensation payments.
“I’m finding they were not religious volunteers,” Goldstein said. “They were engaged, particularly Dr. Brenda Upton, in a number of work-like activities.”
