Hi, I usually don't post here a lot but, I spent some time with my aunt and uncle last week. He's DF'ed and she's inactive but still makes some meetings.

We somehow got into how bad some of the new songs are and they both mentioned a few interesting things about the songs back in the 60-80's. When a cousin was visiting here from Latin America during the summer, she also said our grandma is not very happy and keeps saying how much better songs were even back in "her days"... I'm guessing back in the 30's-50's.

I thought it'd be interesting to look into it and see what differences there are in music and doctrine as well. Does anyone have any older songbooks you want to get rid of or give away??? Or any PDF's would be helpful too. Thanks.

I have no spare books and am not savvy enough to create download files ....But your comment "back in "her days"... I'm guessing back in the 30's-50's. "reminded me of a moment in the library of my wife's K Hall recently. I found a really old songbook , from the times you mention. I read out some of the lyrics and everybody giggled. They were SO aggressive and confrontational all about being in a war and being ready to stand and fight for right "On the side of The Lord......."

I guess those were the days back then when they really told it like it was and didn't take no from anybody.....I can understand somebody being nostalgic.

Thats what got my attention. My uncle said he still remembers his favorite song from one of those books: Song of Reproach against Satan, or something like that... Where they pretty much "thrashed him". LOL

I was like: "What?!! We had a song like that?? Sweet, I've got to see it." I know they used to use the word "Zion" too a lot.

Back then, the songs were actually... shall I say it... good and some were written not by the Society, but by truly talented minds.

If they were to make songs like of those ages, man.... they could really pipe up the mind control.

Does anyone know whether there is a pdf on the web anywhere of that 1928 songbook, Songs of Praise to Jehovah? As I recall, it had early versions of some of the "kingdom songs" with lyrics that were, at least in some cases, more Christian than JW. I used to have a copy, but my ex took it in the divorce (along with pretty much everything else).

I don't have a PDF but I found this online. It has lyrics and pictures of some of the pages.

    NeonMadman.

Although I do not know that PDF, Mr. Entaro who is my Japanese friend has posted the scanned pictures to the website which Mr. Mythbuster introduced.
If you ask of him, ...maybe... he may scan the page which you need.

    His website is here.
