He ultimately decided to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine, feeling that he would forever berate himself if he didn't. In 1984, Peter Ostrum received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Except I love the Tim Burton/Johnny Depp/Helen Bonham Carter mix - in everything that they do :)
If that said 'The luckiest boy in the world " the answer would have been Pee Wee Herman..
I just saw he is reviving his Pee Wee character for Broadway.
He got caught doing the "nasty" in an adult theater years ago.
Snoozy
I understand that the Tim Burton version was not supposed to be a remake but a separate adaptation of the novel (and truer to the novel in some ways). But the original movie is superior to the book by making Charlie have to do something to win. In the novel and the Burton version, Charlie simply wins by default because he's the last one left. The subplot of Slugworth-Gobstoppers-Fizzy Lifting Drinks imo greatly improves the narrative by introducing risk to the protagonist (Charlie did bad too and may pay for it) and a far more satisfying resolution (Charlie did the one moral thing that none of the other contestants did).
That's one very big aspect. In most other aspects, the Burton version really sucked. The only thing I quite liked was depicting the palace of chocolate and re-envisioning the nut sorting room (which was not possible with '70s special effects). But the original's heart and soul was quite lacking in the Burton film.
Plus Wilder's Wonka was genius.
