I always liked the assembly hall at Dorking, but I still wouldn't pay £3 per day to have brain cells destroyed with boredom.
Here in the UK - a £3 fee charged for going to JW assembly hall

Google "Watchtower Dollar" and print up a few of these. (I cannot find a British equivalent, but who cares?)
Or this from ajwrb.org

Yes, by all means, print up a bunch of those Chuckie Bucks and insert them into the assembly contribution boxes.
Again, we may be seeing a tipping point: they must openly demand donations just like Christendom. Puts the lie to all crap in the Awake recently.

If you must attend at all, I would suggest going and donating precisely nothing. If they make a stink about it, prepare to record it. They might tell you that you are not carrying your own load. Whatever guilt trip they put on you, prepare to record it. Now, next business day, call the tax department and tell them that you would like to report a tax evasion situation. You will now have the recordings to prove that they did, in fact, attempt to coerce a certain amount out of you. They can get in big trouble with their taxes if they try this, since they are no longer taking "voluntary" donations. The guilt trips and houndings will be proof that such donations were not truly voluntary.

Cantleave, would that be the Dorking Halls?
I have been to many functions there as a child but knew nothing of JWs in those days. Did you used to live near Dorking? I did for many years.

Little Imp, it was the Embassy Cinema, converted to an Assembly Hall. Unfortunately it was sold off in the Early 80' and turned into a Car Park. We were assigned there for assemblies but lived in Southampton. We used stay with a couple with lived just outside of Dorking, they became good friends, I believe they live in Laetherhead now.

LI ;
the proper Ass'embly hall is now a car park almost opposite Dorking Halls, they vacated it sometime in the early 80's then they built the horrible sterile Hays Bridge

Our congregation sends £1 per publisher per month to the Assembly Hall.
If you want to look at the funding of Assembly halls in the UK check out the Charity Commission sites:

Surrey (Hays Bridge):
These accounts make quite interesting reading. I also remember the Dudley Assembly Hall being built, opposite the zoo. Back in the days of Dave (cream cake) Carter, DO. Must have been in the early 1970's.

3 pounds sterling would be almost $5.00 US. ($4.83 today) A family of four would be near $20.00 a day. + meals, transport. I assume most attendees live near home, otherwise, add rooming.
Small price to pay for everlasting life in God's New Order.

Hays Bridge was previously a BORSTAL, very fitting don't you think!
