Has anyone ever had a 'Near Death Experience' ?

I'm wondering if anyone here has had a "Near Death Experience" or know of someone that has. As an example: such as floating above your body during your operation when the doctors 'lose' you and you make a decision to return back to your body even though the bright light and some voice tell you otherwise...

Did it change you/them in anyway?

Do you/they now believe in some sort of after life?

Do you/they see that 'Near Death Experience' as your mind just playing tricks on you?

Did it seem real or feel like a dream?

I know someone that was clinically dead for 30 min before he was brought back. He told me he remembers absolutely nothing.

[BTW: I have never experienced one]

I have never had one, nor ever hope to experience one! However, I have read and listened to many accounts of those who have, indeed those who have died and either resuscitated or resurrected. With these in mind I would answer some of your questions.

Did it change you/them in anyway?

Yes, many had profound experiences out of the body which radically changed their lives when back in the body. Others had only fleeting experiences and didn't experience anything life changing.

Do you/they now believe in some sort of after life?

    See above.

Do you/they see that 'Near Death Experience' as your mind just playing tricks on you?

Once again, it depends on the length or indeed depth of their experience.

Did it seem real or feel like a dream?

    See above.

From what I have read, someone who is clinically dead for 30 mins is most likely to have irrecoverable brain damage and are only likely to be resurrected, see here Lazarus Syndrome

The apostle Paul could have likely experienced one 2 Corinthians 12 when he was stoned to death Acts 14:19 or possibly "beaten with rods" Acts 16:22, 2 Corinthians 11:25

Interestingly, when Christians have near death experiences, they usually see Jesus or Mary.

When Muslims have near death experiences they tend to see Allah, or important spirits from the quaran.

When Hindus have near death experiences they tend to see Krishna or symbolic images from their religion.

If everyone all had the same near death experience regardless of their beliefs or religion beforehand, I might be slightly inclined to take the drug blurred ramblings of a dying brain a tiny bit more seriously.

But I wouldn't believe what they saw was real if they were totally awake and healthy at the time, let alone when their mind is at its weakest.

And to answer the question: No I've never had a near death experience. But I did fall out of a tall tree and almost die. And I once dreamt about being in the new system which felt real while I was asleep. . . I just didn't do them both at the same time.

I thought I did but it was probably the effects of the morphine.

In 2001 I had hip surgery and had requested no blood transfusion. My mum had come to visit and I remember looking at my hands and they were as white as the sheets on my bed. My sister-in-law arrived and I could hear the two of them talking but it was if I was floating off somewhere but then this big black woman wearing brightly coloured clothes was waving her finger at me and saying "it wasn't time yet". She was very jolly and was chuckling as she spoke to me.

I floated back down and began to feel as though I was in the room again as blood started to be transfused.

As I say having thought about it since it was probably the morphine causing me to hallucinate.

I was lost on the table in 2006 and brought back within a couple of minutes. Not only do I not have memories of that experience, I have also lost the memories of the two days before it happened. I have a friend who went through the exact same experience with the exact same medical emergency the year before, and he also remembers nothing.

I don't have a definite stance on NDEs, but I tend to think they involve false memory.

I've had many near bored-to-death experiences when I attended the KH, Assemblies & Jury Duty.

There evidently is a study being done by a Dr. Sam Parnia at Southampton University with some results to be published next year, I think. There is a video but i'm unable to post it with him talking about Cardiac Arrest and what they know about death.

Spot on Lore I think that sums it up perfectly.

A week ago this past Monday my husband went into full cardiac arrest with no pulse or breath for about five minutes. He had no bright light or floating experiences and can't recall two days before the event.
