Be careful that you don't get sucked in.

Wannabefree has nailed an important point.

If you're thinking there's no way in the world they could suck you in at this point, beware!

You'll be amazed how persuasive it all can sound.

JWs have years of training in overcoming objections, even down to the language to be used.

    Don't get overconfident.

you have come to the right place kristikay - welcome. Jehovas witnesses are very tenacious people and you allude to this in you opening post in that your bible study conductor has been coming for a while and you are now having a bible study. Charm is another device they use to break down resistance and is quite often irresistible over time. So please be careful as they will try to hook you in by offering you friendships which they will describe as loyal and loving. However Jehovahs witnesses practice very cruel forms of pressures to conform. The worst is ostracism and this is implemented if you disagree with them after you have become part of their group.

Furthermore they will hook into your desire to make a change in the world by telling you the only way of bringing about change is to preach the good news of the kingdom. In reality you will be preaching the bad news of death to everyone who is not a witness but they will convince you that you are engaging in a life saving activity and that you are special and important for taking part.

Please don't entertain them any longer - their techniques work as they have been diligently honed.

KristiKay - RUN. Do not get involved with these people. It's a glorified, sugarcoated cult. Yes most of them are very polite but that is part of their act. As mentioned above by others, these people are trained at their "Meetings" how to argue their point. Many of them will relentlessly show up at your door even if you've told them politely and firmly that you're not interested. Its a brainwashing scam. Their goal is to isolate you from your actual family and adopt them as your new family in the hopes that you will now be reliant on them which further isolates you from your real family. I know because they sucked in my unwise, naive, troubled daughter (even though she's actually just posing because she does not believe in God) and unfortunately her 3 year old son. They're also a bunchy of phony posers that talk about how material posessions dont matter, yet look at some of the stuff they have, not to mention the fact that my daughter sure doesnt mind her material big-screen HD television.
Its just a farce - keep away!

    Good luck to you.

KristiKay... welcome to JWN. Since your Bible knowledge is not that great, I suggest you cut this off now before it starts becoming a real issue in your life.

Tell them you wish to read the Bible on your own and do your own research before continuing on. Also tell them that you will contact them IF you feel you wish to continue studying with them.

If they won't back off, play the legal card. Tell them they are bordering on harrassment, that you don't like this at all and will call your lawyer and the police if they don't stop. Seriously, you must establish boundaries with these people and you must defend them or they'll walk all over you and suck you in. If you show you have a backbone they'll likely move on. They prefer people who are easily persuaded.

Thanks for the advice guys, here are some of the things I've brought up to her: John 1:1, Romans 14, Colossians 2:16, I've asked her, " Don't you think if Jesus starting ruleing in 1914 it would be undisputable?" I've explained the reason there are more RECORDED earthquakes. I've pionted out that 100 years ago her religion was unrecognizable as it is today, Ive brought up organ transplants and how the WT doctrins have changed (1967-1980) and how people have lost their lives. I mean the whole false phrophecy thing, you don't have to know the blble to know what it says about that! It's amazing to me how she has worked that out in her mind! It's sad how completly brianwashed she is! She puts herself to sleep listening to the WT and AWAKE on an mp 3!! She is a very nice lady, and I am very aware of her agenda, at some point I'm sure I'll tire of this "bible study", it lost some it's luster when I realized that she refuses to believe anything other then what the WT says, because of coarse it's "Gods Organisation". Its interesiting to me that people can blindly believe what ever someone else tells them!

Easy to do! Many struggle to stay awake during the weekly WT study at the Kingdom Hall

It looks like you're past that point but you might find Don Cameron's "Captives of A Concept" interesting (google it). He brings out the point that it's not a Bible Study you should be after when studying with JWs, but a JW history study in connection with the application of one Scripture central to JW theology - Matt. 24:45-47.

you have touched on a fundamental aspect of Jehovahs witnesses. They cultivate a parent child relationship between each member and the organisation. Dependency and submissiveness are encouraged at each meeting so that when you bring up legitimate anomalies in their theology their loyalty to their parent immediately imposes itself into the space opened up by your questions.

An elder lady complained that she has to take sleeping pills, when our resident super-dub elder had to chime in trying to boast by saying he doesn't need sleeping pills; when he has insomnia he takes a couple of WTs or Awakes I had a hard time controling my laughter...

    Hi Kristi,

Sounds like you're not the kind of person that just believes anything...good for you!

It doesn't matter what they show you from the Bible...it's as full of false prophecies as Nostradamus or anyone else's writings, because it is not the "Word of God", and this is proven on this forum all day, every day. On top of that, they have their own Bible, making it doubly false.
