Actually she might be better off with a full size 9mm like a Glock 19 perhaps. My model 60 even with standard pressure loads bounces around pretty good, and with the +P's it's a handful. Easy to conceal though.

Can you hit pretty good with that long trigger pull on the P3AT? My friends P11 constantly frustrated me when I shot it.

It is dead on. I love it. I've never fired their 9mm model.

Yesssss!! I gun thread!! Now we're talkin!!!

Well, I see two different types of questions here, 1 for home defense, and 1 for personal carry.

Here are my answers. For home defense, I have a custom Colt Gold Cup Mark IV, .45. I use Fiocchi jacketed hollow points for home defense. However, I also use this as a target pistol. Either bullet will kill some douchebag criminal thug in your house.

For personal concealed carry, I use a DiamondBack .380. It is incredibly small, but is like a mini-Glock in it's take-down and features. Very, very thin and nice shooting close-quarters pistol. I use higher powered jacked hollow points while carrying it. Having owned a Ruger LCP, Bersa CC .380, etc I can honestly say this is the smallest of them all, and the most concealable. The trigger pull is long, but very smooth. Also, and this is important, legible 3-dot sights.

If .380 isn't your thing, and you MUST carry 9mm, then I highly recommend the Walther PPS (NOT PPK) in either 9mm or .40 S&W. (Same size pistol). It is extremely thin for 9mm, and also has excellent sights.

Here's my custom Gold Cup Mark IV, I put alot of money into this, but it's the best 1911 I've ever had:

    Yes! Firearms threads rock!

Home defense go to gun: Mossberg 590A1 Special Purpose, 1st 3 loads birdshot, rest 00 buck.

Carry weapon: SIG P229 .40 180gr JHP variety (whatever is affordable)

I'm needing to upgrade my armory inventory but the SIG has been my baby since I was 21, still shoots straight and is pretty fun to shoot.

Upstairs near bed: Rossi Model 88: 38SPL +P Remington Golden Sabre, 125 gr

Downstairs: Springfield 1911: 45 ACP. Remington Golden Sabre. 230 gr.

Upstairs (If you feel lucky try coming up the stairs): Mossberg 500 12 gauge "Persuader" straight Remington 00 Buck, 3"

My vehicle: Sig Arms P239: .40 S&W, Speer Gold Dot, 180 gr

Pocket carry: Keltec P3AT: .380 ACP Speer Gold Dot, 90 gr..

I don't worry too much about overpenetration, by the way, no neighbors, and the whole family sleeps in the master bedroom (have 3 year old and 7 month old)

For what its intended, it works just fine, as LeavingWT says. However, it isn't a range gun for sure.

Can you tell me the best hand gun for a woman to carry? I have poor wrist strength so it needs to be super easy to use

Hi Violia, you should get one of the newer hammerless revolvers. Some of them are very light, and there is nothing easier or more reliable to use.
